This looks excellent in my view, although I am curious about the period. I'm not an expert on period clothing so could somebody tell me if this is meant to be from the 1789 period or 1838?

It looks to me like 1780's period dress, judging purely from his coat. The lads in "Les Miserables" , Enjolras in particular, took pride in wearing Napoleonic military dolman/waistcoat, with hussar braiding. It's an inspirational figure, however you want to see it. Perhaps some companion figures might be in the pipeline. One can only hope.........
