What a beautiful figure Jim...and the painting so far looks excellent...I really like the way he's coming along, look forward to the next pictures.

All the best..Roy.

Jim,

The figure looks great, as do the pictures. You may not remember the exact colors, but the progress definitley helps novices like me. Looks like oranges and yellows in the right places to make the red vibrant, and the "gold" really stands out. Did you freehand paint the "7" in the sabretache ... or did you use some historex spares? I'm really looking forward to the rest.

Anthony

I really like what you're doing with this figure.

The colours look spot on, and the brush work is awesome! Very inspiring, as is all your work.

Keep it going, can't wait for more.

Tim

Hello Jim,
Your thinking about boots is true. Generally, boots were black in campaign and service wear, the boots in red, green and yellow marroquin leather were more delicate and used for parade and walking dress. However, in the period 1804-5, when we can locate the uniform of this man, officers wore often coloured boots and rich uniforms even at war, especially on the the great battles as Austerlitz for example (not in marching order).
I say also remember to remove the leaves and other ornements from the cartridge pouch, hussars officers have normally a little eagle, or nothing. Numbers, leaves and horns were generally used by Chasseurs officers. Although I have a photo of an original cartridge pouch used by an officer of 2nd Hussars with number and leaves, but this object was personal for that officer, it was not a generalized use.

Hi JIM,

I hope your project goes well ????

Ok, yes it has been a LONG time coming but I'm finally getting the brushes wet again and God!!!!!!!!!!!!!! does it feel good! Here is the flesh work for this figure. Yes, there are things I still need to fix but what can one expect after sitting in a box for 3 years and going through 4 MAJOR moves! I'm not satisfied with the sash and will tweak it some more. Anyway, here they are:

OhMa'Gosh. . . Mr. Patrick, I didn't get in on this at the start. But I did want
to comment. Really fine work. I'm relatively new as a Planeteer so I'm not
familiar with your work. But it looks wonderful. Re the ground cover:
Are those Prairie Tufts??? Wow, they look so natural. Beautiful painting on
the figure. Eager to see more WIP photos.

Old Heimer Jayhawk. . . numba' one in the program. . . and numba' one in
my heart. Love those college hoops. . . ;););)
