Very cool figure with a lot of personality. I really like how you have done the blue tones in the pants.
Hi John,
Lovely work, can't wait to see this piece finished and mounted. Nice to see some 1860's Commando's from New Zealand.
cheers
Richie
Great work so far. Like the different blue's.

What a smashing figure and very well painted, I salute you Sir.
BTW do you know if there are any plans to add privates this range that could be slightly adapted to depict British troops? My reason for asking is I had a Great, Great Grandfather serving in the 57th Reg't out in New Zealand from 1860 until their return to Liverpool in 1867.
Very nice john, look forward to seeing the finished piece
John, this is coming along nicely, you've blended the blues well since I last saw this piece, hope to see him on the 30th.

Many thanks for your reply to my posting. Looking forward to seeing the completed figure.
I only recently found out my relative fought in the Maori Wars his medal is in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge so painting a figure will be the next best thing. A New Zealand chap on the Victorian War Forum posted the picture below. The chap next to the cook smoking a pipe looks just like my dad - spooky!!
Cheers
Stunning paint work John, you are a master with those brushes, it makes my figure painting look like paint by numbers!
I dig it John. Just did a New Zealand constabulary forces member from the same period. Fascinating time in history.
Cheers John. It's a one-off. I'll post pics of it on the forum soon, but here's a quick preview of it in progress. Thanks Stephen, sure is a fascinating period in time. Was your figure a commercial casting or a conversion/ scratch built one Stephen.
