The figure started life as a stripped down 1/35th plastic dolly figure made from a commercial plastic kit. The helmet, uniform and accoutrements are all sculpted from Magicsculpt and the sword and scabbard are adapted Historex spare parts. The whole is painted in acrylics and simply based.

Not my best but certainly not my worst, however when the mojo dies so does the project in my case. Going to have a bit of a change of pace for my next project.

Another unique piece for the collection, don't be so harsh on yourself, I am pretty sure most of us on here would be happy to take a plastic stickman and some putty and end up with a lovely little figure like that.
He is great.

Excellent work

Mobo

Cheers Mobo, thanks for the support.

Cheers Rob, I think my ambition got the better of me trying to work with 6 new builds, got to the stage where my enthusiasm for the subjects was fading as I wanted to move on to other things. It's not like this is the first time I've dine this, nor I suspect will it be the last. Thanks for your kind words though, it is appreciated.

Looks good and I know what you mean about mojo.

I've been enjoying looking back through your WIP thread, particularly the modifications you made as it's an aspect of modelling I want to get better at.

Many thanks for that, unfortunately no amount of bloody minded stubbornness can replace mojo! These figures are a carry on to some very unsatisfactory conversion work over a couple of decades. I developed the current skill level though as an armour modeller for about 3 or 4 years, I know it sounds daft but I could never find the right figures. Started slowly adding bits, changing poses etc but it all helped in the end. About the best advice I got was to finish a piece, just the sculpting bit any way, each one is a lesson learnt so go for it, what's the worst that could happen!

That’s exactly where I am, I mainly do armour and got into busts as a pallet cleanser (although it may be beyond that now). I want to learn to modify poses to suit the 2 ‘dream builds’ at the back of my head.

Well I will offer what assistance and advice I can as and when. Should I ask about the dream builds or are they the kind you want to keep to yourself for the time being, lest somebody nicks the idea.

Drop me a PM if you need to pick my brains, just don't be dismayed by the mess you may find there!

Thanks, ask away!

The first is the Mk I tank Daphne about to go into action during the battle of the Ancre. The tank is best known from this film clip. My interest is the chap with glasses, his name is Frank Rusby Styring, his family lived a few streets away from my house and after his death in 1918 they built a monument to him on the cemetery behind our garden, you can see it from our back window.

The second is based around a story about a chap I used to work with. As an NCO in Afghanistan his vehicle was used to evacuate a load of casualties, the driver struggled to see because his mate was on a stretcher on the decks by his head. When it was all over he sent the crew to another vehicle to wash, get a brew and recover. While they did that he cleaned all the blood out of the vehicle so his crew wouldn’t have to do it. I want to find a way of telling that story, at the moment I’m toying with a sgt cleaning out a Grant whilst the crew walk away. It’s sort of the opposite of the scene from fury.

Interesting projects and I can see why you'd want to do them, nice personal touch and all. The opposite of fury, a mate of mine suggested doing the fury tank and crew but swapping the heads our for animals and calling furry, made me chuckle.

Well as I said any help I can offer will be given willingly, just ask and I'll do my best.

Cheers Simon

This may not be your best but your sculpting work on all the accoutrements in pretty good IMO. I can do a bit of conversion and putty work to repair clothing but making tiny little things out of putty is something I struggle with. Your threads are always good encouragement.

A nice job, mate. I always had a soft spot for that uniform. The bit you said about mojo is 100% spot on. It's worthy of a thread of its own. (y)

Blind Pew, Nigel, many thanks for your support, I probably should have completed this one first as it was the main driving force for the Afghan theme. Still no worries on to the next project with a renewed mojo.
