Hi Edorta,Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like him. I know what you mean with the gold lace ,I have a Victorian Royal Engineers Officers tunic in my collection. I originally painted the lace work with yellow ochre ,off white and raw and burnt umber etc.. and as a figure goes it look to flat for me ,so I used some pure gold to high light, to give more contrast. It looks brighter in the photos than in the flesh. Thank you for the photos, they are great, will save them for future reference. Here is a close up that shows the lace a bit better, brighter than the examples you have posted but bit of personal preference.Great work John, I like the face and the shako, nice colors. Only one thing, and it´s my taste, I think the gold of the embroideries is too metalic, maybe you can get a better or real result simulating the golden using yellow, brown, ocher and white etc.
As I said is a question of taste, I think you have achieve the effect nicely.

Thanks Colin for the kind words 75mm figures are a neat scale. Look forward to see your version.Beautiful job. I've done a couple from this (Crimean) series but have shied away from this one because of the gold lace. Seeing the great job you've done on it, I really must nut up and dive in.
I concur about the scale... I think 75 is perfect for painting. Big enough to make the detail crisper but not so big as to need a roller to paint the larger areas
Again, fantastic work
Colin
Hi Tony, thanks mate for the kind words, glad you like the end result. I have always found keeping the paint nice and thin helps with the sheen. In saying that I did put a drop of Vallejo matt medium in the main mix of blue. A drop of Tamiya matt base will give a more matt finish, you just have to be careful not to put too much in the paint or you will get a matt chalky finish.I personally like a more egg shell finish, which is how this guy turned out.Hi John,
Apologies for being late to jump in and give you a well deserved pat on the back for this figure. A cracker.
Just wondering how you found the acrylic paint and dealt with the inevitable sheen?
Hi Les,thank you so much for the kind words mate.Look forward to catch up soon.Well as I've already commented on this figure on FB, I can only say how lucky I am that John lives a few blocks from me so will have a wee peek in person soon!
