Frank, I really agree with you on this. When painting a head or face separate to the body, I always keep putting them together to see the overall look, it does make a difference.

Thanks everyone for making this such a useful thread :)

Thank you Samson! Hope these apps as another one called RGB palette can help in this truly confusing matter for most of us.

Can't find the apps for my Samsung . Gonna have to steal my wife's I pad will be getting my own I pad soon Lol

Graham: I use the same list of oil colours that you
posted on Page one of the thread. But my list also has
Cerulean Blue. And I mix a dab of that with the other
flesh tones. Have a fine day, mate. . . . Miami Jayhawk

Beware of using the RGB model as it relates to mixing colours of light rather than pigment. Great if you're a digital artist working on a screen but it isn't much use for mixing paint.

I paint using the Monet/ van Gogh method, I just slap it on and hope for the best . Seriously though, the same colour from different manufacturers can't be relied upon to be the same colour, and colours from different manufacturers aren't necessarily intermixable. Burnt Sienna from Rowney is a warmer hue than the Winsor and Newton one and Winsor and Newton Burnt Sienna just sat on top of Rowney Vermillion Hue and refused to get involved. Bl***y annoying it was:(. So just be aware that oils do take a bit of getting to know:).
Best wishes, Gary.
