John-

Keep a' goin' I like the green jacket color. What is the mix?

Keith

Keith the green is so easy. Humbrol 105. then a wash all over with some Terre Verte oil paint thinned down with turps, a really thin wash. Let is dry then a wash over with some Paynes Grey oil paint diuluted with turps, this one is more like colured turps, then paint with turps added, I think that makes sense!. You have got to use Turps if white spirit is used is just does not look right.

Joe the tartan fun starts soon. . Robin thanks for the kind words more may well be need when the tartan starts. ;)

I have stated and the nore I paint the more I admire the work of Joe Hudson, I take my cap of to you sir. Or should that be a Tam o shanter?.

Rough outline done with masking tape. the tartan is a made up one

John,

Thanks for the kind words. I think this is looking really nice and I am looking forward to seeing more of him. I have to get back to my Jacobite and then this bust in the future. I am trying to put it off until the far future!

Great job and keep up the good work,

Joe

John,
I gotta say, your flesh tones are the best I have seen from you! ;) They look great. I am very impressed. I was wondering how to ever do a tartan pattern and now I understand much better...
When you have a chance, please shoot me a note at the house and let me know how you are coming along with the pattern and some of the things you discovered worked well. I like this piece very much my friend and can't wait to see the next stage.
Keep up the good work, this is great!

All the best my friend

Patrick

I really do like your subtle flesh tones (looks like Burnt Sienna + Titanium white + ...? Very convincing ) (y)

Tartan jacket is coming along nicely too, I see. Good work>

Hi John, I used Mars Brown, titanium white, scarlet lake and yellow ochre. I did not use burnt sienna as I find it a bit orange. Burnt Sienna was used for the hair. I have yet to add anything to it as the hair will be done last when all of the tartan has been done, well that is the plan.

I have made a bit of progress. I thought that the tape idea worked really well in helping me work out the pattern. So I cut some 3mm strips from masking tape and had a bit of a play around and came up with this.
