Mike it is a good thing Tina is such a fan of yours, because then she won't be too pissed when this ends up in my grey army. The fact that you mention that it could be steam punk just makes it that much more appealing to me.

A great piece and looks so smoothly sculpted.
Very inspiring in subject and sculpting
Best wishes

Mike,

I have always loved your work since I purchased your Zeppelin Commander. But I must say you have outdone yourself with this piece. Hope to see more Victorian personalities from you (Raglan, Lucan, Redvers Buller, hint hint).

Here is a color plate of Charles Napier I found in an old issue of Military Illustrated.

Thanks to everybody for all the great comments!

I am aware of the "beatle" vibe. However, it is more down to the subject himself than anything I have done here. Here are a few pics I pulled offline with a quick google search:

It should be noted that many of the portraits of him were done toward the end of his life. The two paintings linked above are closer to his appearance when he served in India. The below illustration from an Osprey title (Queen Victoria's Commanders) was used as the primary reference:

Thanks again for all the great comments. You guys are too nice! ;):D

What about them there glasses Mike? ;)

Bent out of wire. Then the "lenses" were filled with Micro Crystal Clear (white glue will work in a pinch). Then I laid a spot of clear epoxy over the top of the lens to give it a bulged look. Finally, a drop of Future floor polish is dabbed on both sides of the lenses. Otherwise they remain sticky and prone to collecting finger prints and nasty stuff.....
