Talino, I think our first reaction when thinking about Asian skin tones is to assume they have more yellow or ochre tones in them (stereo-typical at least). I don't think this is necessarilly true. I think if you stick with your normal caucasion skin tones it should come across just fine. You might consider who they are and where they are and if they need some more color due to sun or weather. Think about Mongolians and the fact that they are outside all thier lives. They tend to get a really nice tanned complection on their weathered skin. I don't think you need to make any special concessions other than the routine you use for any other caucasion skin tones. ;)

IMO, at 1/35th the diff betw a caucasion and asian skin tone will not be noticeable.
If it is noticable, I would be afraid that your too "yellow"

Long time back I was experimeting with different flesh mixes... I thought over Val Sunnyskin tone, a flesh oil mix of Yellow ochre, Mars red, and flake white looked pretty close to a "generic" asian tone that was darker than my normal european.

My mixture is listed in this thread. FWIW I think it definitely makes a difference to mix skin colour to suit ethnicity, even at small scales.

Anthony -

For some reason your link above does not work - at least for me. However, I went to the "cool mini or not" site, clicked on Articles, and then scrolled down to the "Ethnic Skintones" article. A bit of trouble, but worth it.

For those that can't follow the above link, try this method.

Cheers!

The technique by which the colours are analysed is extremely valuable and I'd certainly recommend it as a way of examining the actual colours in a reference photo but try to aim for pictures that are as large and as clear as possible (unlike most web images) to prevent odd results from scanning and/or the compression process.

Of course anyone who doesn't use the paints listed will have to mix everything from scratch and it's worth bearing in mind that merely having colours that look right doesn't mean they'll work right because we're dealing in paint, not colour, so it's not a magic bullet by any means ;)
