As Marc pointed out, there are 2 others in the series. I have painted both, and they are wonderful! Will follow this thread as I intend [eventually!] to do the whole set! Thanks for the pointer on the right arm!
Ian

Thanks Ian, as I paint more of them, I will be purchasing the ones that I've missed! And yes, as mentioned, that arm has been nothing but headaches!

Regards,
Phil

Have seen all these lined up ( boxed, unbuilt ) at Red Lancers.
They are gorgeous and they are tempting.
Knowing myself as I do...if I bought one, I would buy all.

Watching this thread with high interest.
Great start. Eyes look good.

Thanks Wheels - Yeah, they are absolutely gorgeous, I will definitely purchasing more of them...

Regards,
Phil

Hello Everybody...

I finally managed to paint Papaflessa's face this weekend (and finally getting a chance to post the progress!)

For the face, I really wanted to make him dramatic! High contrast with lots of wrinkles and details (more than were actually sculpted, so many were freehanded). The only thought one should get from looking at this is "Holy crap, I would NEVER mess with this guy!"

Next we got the beard, hair, and turban...

I'd be happy to answer questions regarding palette, skin tones, techniques, etc...
Hope you like it so far!

Regards,
Phil

Looks really good Phil....I've been fermenting on getting this piece for 2 yrs.You may have tripped my trigger.Carl Reid does not pull any punches when it comes to expression with the eyes which sometimes makes them a
little difficult to paint.Personally,I'll take the expression over difficulty.....Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much Wayne! As you can imagine, I'd recommend you pick this guy up - he's been a blast to paint so far. To be honest, outside of the face, the rest of the sculpt is a very, very straight ahead affair.
Also, I couldn't agree more - Carl Reid certainly does not pull any punches, but it's definitely worth the effort!

Phil

Hello Everybody,

Some more wips...

Turban, shirt, vest, jacket, and some of the small details are now in place. Pretty close to the end now, I think I'll be finished sometime this weekend (and then onto the next project, of course :) ) So far he's been an utter joy to paint; the only real tedious part has been the little freehanded brocade pattern done on the vest.

Regards,
Phil
