More butchery. After some good feedback I've gone over the bergen with a green/brown wash, to darken up the bergen, and give a brown hue to it. I also finally could no longer ignore the right side pouches which were attached at an impossible angle, so off they came, and after a bit of butchery with the scalpel, they now fit much beter.

The helmet is M1976 non- ballistic pattern with green nylon strap and velcro fastening, black plastic buckle on the right.

Finally some progress...
I've finished the bergen and pouches, and I've finished painting the camo on the smock, just final weathering to do. The GPMG needs weathering, mainly 'chipping' around the feed and receiver.
I've started on the trousers, roughly blocked the three main colours, now to fine tune the shapes and swirls..

I've started weathering the smock, and worked on the camouflage on the trousers. Slowly getting there. I've attached the head, I'm quite happy how the eyes are looking back with him having his head turned around. The smock will get more dirty around the elbows and other areas which would have been getting wet and dirty.
I'm undecided as to wether I'm going to add camouflage to the helmet.

Coming along nice, although his top half looks very glossy at the moment.

Cheers Steve. The Bergen and the gas mask bag are supposed to be a semi gloss, the rest will get a few coats of matt varnish when it's all done.

Been a while, but I'm having time to work on this again.
I've about finished weathering the jacket, and halfway through the trousers.
I've also decided to add some camouflage material to the helmet. Next is adding the sling, which will need some sculpting to add the padded shoulder part. About which I have a question. Would the sling mostly been worn around the back of the neck, or over the right shoulder?

Very nice this, I like modern and have a ww2 American which would not be to bad but I have a Brit sniper primed and ready to go but I'm unsure using oils.

I don't use oils myself Malc, nor enamels. It's the smell of the thinners, and the ease of cleaning up, that originally (when I started painting models when I was a kid) got me to use Acrylics. First Tamiya, then later the usual brands like Vallejo, Life, and even 'craft paints'..

Most work has been the multiple layers of grime, to slowly build up the dirt on the jacket and trousers. I've added and painted the strips of hessian and scrim (camouflage netting filler, see Moz's picture higher up).
I'm still undecided about the GPMG sling, the obvious way would be across the back of the neck, but there is a somewhat unfortunate gap between his left hand and the gas regulator of the GPMG, which I'm thinking of filling with the sling, like he has just picked up the GPMG and is in the progress of repositioning his fire position...

That's one of the images I've been using as a reference whilst working on this figure Mookie.
I've decided to go for sling over shoulders after all, it'll probably look better. I'm calling time on the weathering now, time to get out the matt varnish to take the shine of the coat and trousers.

arted work on the sling. The white parts are the adjusting buckles that are part of the original sculpt, I'm adding the attachment ring (old p.e. part), cabiner hook (wire) and the sling (Squadron green putty).

If started on the groundwork, I'm trying to depict the rocky ground under the foggy soil. The left foot will be stood in a puddle, and I'm considering add I g a small amount of snow around the grass. I'm going to add more soil and grass on the left, and add water puddles among the rock cracks.

Well, this one took a lot longer than I hoped, but just a few points to tidy up, a length of ammo belt to attach to the GPMG, and then I'll call it done. If you spot something I've missed, don't be shy...

Thanks Steve, the lighting makes the Bergen look a bit shinier than it is, but I agree that it is a bit too uniform. I'll give it a spot wash with a mixture of semi gloss and matt to simulate tear and wear.
