Hi all,
Thought I would post pics of what I am working on at the moment, although I am bit bit further on than what the pics suggest. I bought this kit second hand, it was basically put together and part painted, so I stripped it and pulled it all apart and started all over again.
The first round of pics are of the horse, firstly undercoated and then airbrushed in my own mix of Jo Sonya acrylics. At this point I give some basic shading and highlights as well as giving the horse its colourings such as darker around the nose and backside, as well as some lighter colouring on the belly.
I will add updates soon

Hi Ben, nice looking horse. I checked out the figure on Pegaso's website. It has some amazing detail and ornamentation which I know you'll go to town on :)
Can't wait to see your progress on it. Cheers mate

Thank you Nick, Derek and Alexandros,
This is a superb figure with some absolutely beautiful details and great posing, but is very heavy, not that easy to hold when painting. I have had this figure for a while just waiting until I felt that I could do it justice. I plan on doing my own take on the colours of his clothing with some nice patterns here and there.

Wow Ben, raising the bar again mate. I hope you'll have it ready in time for WASMEx??
Hi ya Tony, after seeing what you are doing with your Boromir, then I have to do something to keep up!!!!!!!! The hope is to have it ready for Wasmex, depends on how easy it all goes, so far so good

Hello again,
I have now applied the oils using mixtures of Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, a bit of Flesh tint and some Black. This was used on various areas to give not only some good definitions between the muscle groups, but also for the colourings of the actual horse. I am going for quite a dark colouring so that it looks dark and brooding.
It looks quite shiny at the moment and its not easy to show all the shading, this is because the oils have not dried at this point.
Thanks for looking

Much as it pains me I do agree with Ron oils for horses I've never really been happy with acrylics for horses

I'll be watching this guys progress. I have had this kit for awhile now but have been scared to start it. You are a brave man and I hope it doesn't break your wrist as you paint it.

Horse looks good Ben , no other way to paint a horse but in oils IMHO:)

Ron

Ps still waiting on the solid water hardening :nailbiting:

Hi Guys, thanks for your comments, yep those oils are great for horses and most animals as they are so rich and have a nice depth to the colours, and its not really that hard to achieve a good result. Ron, no I have ripped off the old resin water and have some new stuff coming in that wont react with the base and will give me good results, so heres hoping as our competition is looming pretty quick.
