I think these little 25MM gems are beautifully sculpted and loaded with details ,
what do you think?

Cheers
Roc :)

You can always count on the Perrys for superb work. But why are most sub-54mm figures sculpted in stumpy proportions? These guys seem to be 6 heads high. Even the Perrys' 40mm line is only 6.5 heads high. Thunderbolt Mountain has no problem with a
7.5-8 head ratio in 25 and 30mm, but they are a lonely exception. I've never read a satisfactory explanation for this convention, which keeps me from buying otherwise attractive figures... :(

Not sure how accurate your measurments are...

With a set of dividers all the ones I quickly examined this morning were all close to 8 heads tall. Guess it really depends on how accurate you initially measure the head ;)

Tom Meier captures excellent details in his 25-30mm sculpts but they lack that certain dynanism that is apparent with the Perry's work. Don't get me wrong, Tom Meier does some excellent, first rate sculpts (unmatched in reproducing details and one of my favourite sculptors going back to his early historical work for Ral Partha) but the Perry figures have a certain lifelike believeability rather than a posed artistic nature to them. Did you notice that some of the archers had their hose down to their ankles - due to bouts of diarrhea being suffered during Agincourt?

Check DarkSword Miniatures for Mr Meier's most recent 3d recreations of Keith Parkinsons fantasy illustrtions. Exquisite sculpts, chock full of details.

Thanks, Joe! Guess I'll have make an order from North Bay Games & Hobbies now. :) In truth, I've just been eyeballing the measurements on-screen... Even so, their arms look a leetle short to me. Btw, your website's at the top of my bookmarks list.

Terry @ North Bay gives excellent service! Being the only Canadian retailler of Perry stuff he normally gets it pretty quickly and dispatches it even quicker.

Here's a shot of some of the Age of Orleans stuff.

Joe, I've seen some of your minis at the MFCA last year, and I got to tell you ,
you truly did a great job, I was inspired by them.
We would love to see you do a step by step. ;)

Keep up the great work

Cheers
Roc. :)

I might be able to help with the head scale question.

certain aspects of 28mm miniatures cant be done true to scale, ankles for instance would be very fragile. Likewise weapons often have to be bigger, tiny gun barrels just wont cast properly. This leads to the need for oversized hands. The smallest head size that I will go to is a 1 in 7 and that's a rare occasion. Faces are often the focal point of a miniature, and a true scale 28 wold have a 3.5mm head, which, if the face was correctly proportioned, would only leave 1.75 mm for the facial detail.

A lot of 28's are now 28 to the eye which puts them at about 30 mm which even then only allows 3.75mm for the head, not much really :) (about half the size of that emoticon on my screen!)

36mm is really the first size that I would attempt true-scale on, anything less than that just wont produce a very dynamic figure.
