Hi Luc, Steve, Keith, Carl, Jimmy, Tom, Joe, Nap, Ken & Kevin,
Again thank you all for the support and kind words(y).

Here are the next two converted figures. The first has been converted into a kneeling 24th foot figure in shirt sleeve order supplying ammunition, I used the Verlinden spare hand that had an appropriate round in it and then sculpted the arm. He originally started out as the standing Sgt Windridge figure, so the legs and feet were chopped accordingly and then resculpted.
The second figure is Padre George Smith also distributing packets of ammunition. I know the scale of Smith is way off, as he was and impressive 6' 6" tall and weighed in at around 18 stone, so some artistic freedom with this character. I have sculpted on his huge (what will become red) beard.

They are both placed in their rough positions behind the mealie bag wall. Anyone fancy making and painting me a load of spent brass cardridges in 1/16 scale, a couple of hundred should do:D. Seriously any ideas I would appreciate, as this is going to be a labourious job.
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie,

So sorry to hear about the passing of your dad, mate. But I'm sure he will appreciate the work you're putting into this for him.

This has the making of a superb piece.
A huge undertaking but I can't wait to see it develop.

Re. the cartridges, Mission models do 50 cal cartridges which equate to 1/16th 5.56 bullets. I'm unsure what size the bullets are for the rifles used in the zulu wars. I've used thin brass rod/wire for spent cases before in 1/16 and they look just as good as the Mission models. I have a load of brass rod I can send to you if you give me your address.

This will obviously be the great piece you have in mind, Richie.
More power to your arms, mate.....keep it going !!!

Hi Grant,
Thanks mate for your comments, suggestions and advice. I would need something approx. 1.3/1.4mm diameter and approx. 4 to 5mm in length.
The Martini round is a bit of a beast, do you know what the actual size is of the 50 cal. round????.
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie,

Yes mate that look like them.

The Mission Models 50 cal spent cartidges are 1/35 scale I should've said....Doh!

A .50 cal round measures just short of 5 1/2 inches with the actual round and just under 4 inches for the brass.

Cheers,

Gells

Hi Richie, first of all may I offer my sincere condolences over your dads sad passing,it's great to see you back and starting out on another great project, the start you have made looks great and looks very promising, will follow as always with interest.

Richie. A less accurate but more simply option would be yo buy plastruct plastic dowel, paint it brass and then slice it into appropriate lengths. A black dot at the end of each would show it spent. Maybe better in 54mm but could be useful in your scale too.
