Very nice piece.
But one observation I've made over the years is of all fighting figures throughout history Landsknechts seem the most likely to be portrayed as piss pots....why them?

How very dare you! Karl is enjoying a refreshing mug of camomile tea while Friedrich and Hans catch up on their bubblegum card trading . . . :p

They were of German origin:sneaky:... it`s our savage nature/role in history - and like later in time when smart looking cleverly designed camouflage uniforms made the bad guys so attractive for modelling the Landsknechts had these nice colorful attire so modellers can justify collecting them as subjects:rolleyes: .

On a more serious note the Landsknechts were the competitors of the Swiss mercenaries in the war business of these times. The image of fierce and ruthless fighters increased their wages and intimidated their opponents. The image was likewise part of psychological warfare. There are reports that during a lull in the fighting parts of the bodies of slain enemies were roasted and eaten while some salad was offered served on the silk of a captured banner - all of course in the face of the disgusted enemies. Whoring, drinking, gambling and pillaging maybe reduced the postraumatic stresslevel, so no need for spin doctors.
When these guys declared the "bad war" it meant that no pardon was given to prisoners. Therefore a besieged city / army was more open to negotiations about surrender before a "bad war" had to be declared.
So the Landsknechts were keen to get that image and would probably still enjoy this role if it would pay.

Cheers, Martin
