Wow, amazing work, I’m impressed with the patience, concentration and desire required to build this. Looking forward to seeing it done.

This project is so impressive, not just the sculpting, but the research and thought that has gone into it.
I had the good fortune to visit Pompeii again and came across these, that reminded of this thread.
If you get the chance to visit Pompeii, I recommend a visit to the new museum, it has some interesting exhibits..

Thanks Malc. Inspirational pictures!
Great to know the museum was renewed. I am considering a new trip to Naples and Pompeii and finally visit the museum. Did not manage to schedule it the first time.

Cheers,
Adrian

Another visit is well worth it, I've been fortunate to visit Pompeii on 3 occasions and seen different sections each time.
Some of the new exhibits are quite something.
Have you walked up Mount Vesuvius as well?

Hi Adrian,
those few square millimeters are very well done and worth the time.
Good choise for marble, I don't think that bronze statues were so common in citizens' houses, even if rich citizens.
Eager to see the next step! :)

Here’s a small step-by-step of the self-made plant. It’s not so hard to do, and a very satisfying job.

Step 1
Base for the leaves is cigarette paper, painted with 2 layers of acrylic paint to give it a bit more strength. Note that I used lead foil for the plant in my post above. I thought about the cigarette paper after doing this one.

... and once again: WOW!

For the leaves I'd suggest to reinforce the paper by "painting" some cyanoacrilate on the paper.
The paper'll be more or less the same thin but much stronger.
Then can be paint at wish.

Step 2
Cut leaves in appropriate sizes, small to large.

Step 3
Cut stems from thin wire, bend and flatten ends.

Step 4
Fix leaves to flattened ends of wire stems with small blob of acrylic gel.

Arrange set of 6 or 7 stems, trimming some stems, into assembly that looks like a plant. Use pot filled with some epoxy putty.

The rest is paint!

Thanks for the tip Eppi. I may try that on the next one, although so far the paint, particularly if glossy, seems to give sufficient strength.

Cheers

And another WOW, that is some great and fiddly detail that will further enhance an already terrific project. Really looking forward to seeing this complete and I bet at this sage so are you.

Cheers Simon

Just caught up again, wow. Love the idea of ciggy papers and I wonder if the new brush on resin? To stiffen the paper would also work. I am going to giv e this a go.
