The only John Cuiffo figures I ever saw were in a WWI diorama of French Poilu's in brilliantly modelled shell holes. I couldn't believe they were plasticine.
They were in Seagull Models in South Kensington - a shop that was even smaller than Under 2 Flags . We used to drool there every time we went to the science museum.
They also had amazing card models.
sorry for the thread hijack

Yes, I remember fondly that Seagull Models shop. I had joined the venerable BMSS then (Wandsworth Hall) and then attended the monthly mtgs at a place above this shop. Met the extremely talented Peter Gilder there and he brought some of his great models to show to us.
There were a couple of very large scale models of a Sioux Indian and a Roman Legionaire. That was a very creative period then and also Military Modelling Mag was in its heyday.
We have many great and more varied detailed model kits nowadays but its not the same thing.

To continue this old men’s tale, if anyone is interested I’ll have a go at taking pictures of my few Cuiffo figures, as soon as I’m back on Belgian terra firma in a day or two. At the moment, I’m just trying to not spill my sherry riding the waves off Gibraltar. The levante is freshening up again!
Cheers,
Pierre

Back on firm ground, here are some pictures of the few Cuiffo figures I have. He made a marvelous series of figures on the French army and the Foreign Legion, but I couldn't afford more of them; price was rather steep but they were all unique pieces. John Cuiffo had a good sense of presentation and groundwork and his creations have IMO a unique, somewhat naive charm. I'd love to see more pictures of them in whatever collection they now rest. Taking pictures was a bit of a problem as the perspex cases keep to attract all the dust particles in my cabinet.

Anyway, here we go:

And a rather fancy one, based on a picture of yours truly bungling about on the rocks at Marche-les-Dames commando training center in 1978:

Thanks for looking,

Does anyone remember the plastic Vac formed walls that Pheonix did for internal Dioramas? I remember the 17th. century one, and I'm sure there were more. Also I remember Series 77 large Armour and Pole Arms kits, around 1/12th scale. I still have a Poleaxe from these sets. Ray

I have this from many years back, cleaned it a couple of times, started repainting and lost the mojo

It was released at an early 90s Euro Militaire. During the Saurday, we had it on display, but no sales, so, on Sunday I took some round to Poste Militaire and asked, for a small fee, if he would display it on his stand. Ray agreed, and after the first 3 hours , had sold 8 and asked if we had any more !! Just goes to show how snobish we can be in choosing a figure !!

Great thread Fogie

I well remember setting fire to my grandmothers best lace tablecloth with a pyrograuve .....working on her best table as a 12 year old !...newspaper to " protect " the table ...didn't work ...tried to use boot polish to hide the scapel cuts !....

Happy no H & S days

I like many will remember bonapartes tiny shop with the wonderful painted figures in the window .....stuff everywhere in the shop ......loved it

Was that that little shop in Bath? I remember going there years ago (2002-2003?), but my interest was into 1/35 military, not figures. Although I did pick up a little resin set of two GI'z taking a German Pilot prisoner. That was a nice shop. Is that the same Bonaparte who now resides in Westbury?
