Hi Rick.
My thoughts too, they are too thick as well as long, and I think there's one missing, allowing for a couple to be hidden under
straps/belt.
I'll have to thin them down in the painting process.
Malc
Looking at the bust , think I might be tempted to add the lacing with very thin magisculpt, the references show a total of 7 on the DT image , on the one in the first post ( Quartermaster Stores ) shows 9
Happy benchtime

I really like the face and I am enjoying seeing your research into the stripes. This is the sort of thing I spend days (and many hours on the internet) fretting about, so it's good to see I am not the only one. But it's part of the fun for me....
Same for me, I like to learn a bit of the history surrounding the figure I'm working on.
In this case there seem to be some variations of the jacket.
Malc
You can just about count on variations with any civil war uniform especially militia. I always try to find a period photo of the unit to work from. Reenactors are not always reliable.
On my Rhode Island figure I've found about 5 or 6 variations of the officer's uniform working from photographs. Leads me to believe the officers of the 1st & 2nd Rhode Island had their "Burnside Shirts" tailored to their own particular design. Can't wait to get him and get started.
Hi Malc well I’m a bit late to this thread . You have made a great start to the figure have to say it’s one of my favourites from the set so far.
We did a bit of research on him and came up with various combinations, so we went with the D T version as it seems like others have said their is various uniforms from the early part of the war.
The good thing is he can be converted if so desired. But this as is makes a great subject. Other projects in the pipeline will also make interesting subjects the next up is a 3 piece vignette. The figures will br available separately or as the set. It’s from the union side of the war. And is being sculpted by Greg.
This will be next month we think so keep an eye open for this one.
Keep up the great work Malc watching with great interest.

Good news after seeing the Mississippi Rifles (the Officer in Green ) we have decided to add it to our ACW list of figures to do. It’s different and will be a great addition to the range. We are working on the vignette at the moment but it will be the next one up from Greg after he finishes the vignette.
We also have a list of others that have been sent to us by customers so this series is going to run for a while yet .

Progress on this fella is a little slow at the moment, I wanted to paint some of the areas before attaching the arms, so I could concentrate on the jacket.
The haversack and canteen as well as some of the leatherwork has been painted, although I'll add final detailing a bit later on.
For the basecoat of the jacket I've used Scale 75 Rainy Grey, Brown Grey for the basic shadows and strengthened with petroleum grey for the deeper shadows.
Thar Brown was mixed with the base colour for the initial highlights. I've kept the highlights and shadows relatively subtle at the moment,
I'll make adjustments as I progress and add some weathering.
The lacing has been roughly marked out with Antares red, this needs tidying up and detailing.

I'm now off to peel the spuds and do some decorating..... no peace for the wicked.

The Scale 75 paints are good, I'm getting used to the reds, I may use the orange as a top highlight on the red, as it may produce a
slightly faded look, or maybe a little flesh.
