Thanks again to everyone who's offered advice, with out it, I think I'd be in the you know what.
I started painting some basic shades, before cementing the hood in place and then carrying on.
I've used the Army Painter washes again, for the shadows, I'm really impressed with them,
they can be mixed in with acrylic paint too.

Next step with be the inside of the hood, and face plates..... that'll be fun.

A little more progress this morning, I added a little more detail to the flesh tones, and I'll add some more detail once the guards are in place.
I've used DarkStar Baroque silver as the base for the metal, and will weather these in a future session.

Nice work Malc and the fiddly parts have worked out really well, it all looks spot on, well done.

If it wasn't for you earlier input, I could've painted the face before attaching the hood, and ended up damaging it.
In the end I didn't find it too bad painting it with the hood in position, but I think it could've been engineered a bit better.
I'm going to paint the plates before cementing them in position, I 'm expecting a little damage when fixing them, fingers crossed nothing major.

Wow, that face is really coming in very well, Malc, awesome!

Cheers Steve, I have to admit I'm rather pleased with the way its progressing.
The washes that Snik/Illias recommended work really well. I want to push one or two highlights further.
Fingers crossed I don't mess it up.

I've added a little more detail to the face, being careful not to overdo it.
The inside of the hood was given a basecoat of Scale 75 Walnut, followed by a couple of washes of Army painter Strong wash.
After mixing a lighter shade by adding a little Iroko and Birch ( Scale 75) I began picking out the detail, adding a mild wash here and there as I went
to help graduate the tones.
I've used gold inks for the helmet ornamentation. Fingers crossed I can get the plated fitted later in the week.

Cheers Malc,
VERY nice stuff!
May I ask a reference for "gold ink"? Thank you.

Hi Eppi

The gold ink or perhaps I should've used the term printers ink, is a paste I acquired many years ago from a print company that I used when I was at work.
In the print trade it was used for edging invitations and things like that.
I add poppy oil as a medium to make it into a liquid suitable for painting.
Hope that makes sense.
I'll post a photo of it in a future update.

This is looking really good so far Malc, lovely flesh tones. And those Army Painter washes are great, you are putting them to very good use.

Hi Malc

Your cracking on with this , not the easiest to both build up and paint with the hood but after various comments you succeeded

Flesh tones look good and your using the washes to good effect

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Thanks Nigel, I just seem to get better results with the Army Painter washes than thinning down paint, maybe because the colours are more vibrant.

Thanks Nap, I finally seem to be making progress, painting in acrylics, but still a long way to go.
You shouldn't have to wait too long for the next update. ;)

I managed to get the plates in position with no problems. That was unexpected.
I've done a little more work on the flesh tones, trying to push one or two highlights , without wrecking it.
Quite pleased with the results so far, but I feel there is room for improvement.
For the outside of the hood I've opted for oils over and acrylic basecoat.
There's quite a mix of colours used: Mars Yellow, Burnt Sienna, Sepia, Van Dyjck Brown and Titanium White
I used a sponge to add a mottled effect, but at this point I'm leaving it to dry and settle before adding some more detail.
