Been out to see this item many a time, if any one has a spare £500,00 to spend it yours. Just needs a little TLC...
It would give you a prime spot for watching what ever they do with the Montgomery that is on the sea bed not far away

Just off out the door but it is worth looking up.

It is a cargo ship sank during world war 2 after hitting a mine and is full of ammo, they didn't know what do to when it sank so they left it. 70 years on they still don't know what to do with a rotting ship full of unstable ammo..

If I remember correctly it was not a mine but a mooring cock-up. In the crowded shipping lanes of the River Medway the Montgomery was positioned at a mooring that was too shallow, and thus at low tide and it floundered on the mud flats and she broke her back. A lot of the cargo was removed from holds 1 and 2 before the shifting wreck made recovery difficult. Apparently there is still a 24 hour watch kept on the wreck to keep people away, but the wreck's contents are not thought to be a great danger. Each passing year lessens the risk as the contents rot away.

A long time ago I paid a visit to the fort, it's going to need a lot of work..

Barke02 is dead correct in his statement about the Richard Montgomery. Just to add my two pennoth , I understood that there was a strike called while unloading , so she was towed off the Berth to where she is now as that was thought to be a safer option while the Strike was on. She was always a prominent sight looking across from Sheerness , but as time goes on she appears to get harder to spot at High Tide, as she sinks further into the mudbank. Thanks Barke02 for bringing back childhood memories.
