Thanks for that, Ray, appreciated. Yes, I thought his Napoleon was similar, but subtly different, to other sculpts; several others do look original, so I may try one or two that I feel confident about. After some careful research, though.

Cheers, Alan

For e.g. Alan, I have a 30yrs. war Capt. from him, and the dog sculpted is definately from Historex. It's a beautiful fig. though, I've looked at it via a 10x Jeweller's glass and it STILL stands up to close inspection. I did the same as you and consulted a friend whose been in this hobby from the early 70s and his conclusions are what I've repeated here. Like I said to him, either I've found a really good sculptor, or, a really good copier. regards, Ray

Unfortunatly the only real way to spot a fake is to buy one and "live and learn".........I have.....bought a couple of Youngs ripoffs a few years ago when I was just getting into it.So many things wrong.....After that ,whenever I was tempted;...I kept telling myself.....Save that 20 bucks or so and look at it as a discount from a legit supplier for something I really wanted...........Haven't wavered since.......................Regards.........Wayne

I agree, you have to educate yourself. Getting burned is part of that. Participating in the forum discussion is another, and, if you have a local club or can go to shows, talk to other artists and collectors and ask them.. There's no real fast way to learn.

Prost!
