Hi all,

I have purshased a 180mm (resin) figurine by Charles Conrad. This is the first time I have painted a resin figurine. What I wanted to ask is - do I need to undercoat it before painting it? I use acrylic paints along with oils. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Kindest regards.

If you mean priming the figure as undercoat I primer the figure with the same primer (Floquil R9 ) before painting the resin figure as it gives "tooth" for the paint to better adhear to the figure. Then proceed as you would normally with a metal figure. The only difference I see in painting a resin figure over a metal one is the resin figure is lighter. Still painted the same way.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it would definitely be a good idea to prime.

By the way, resin moulds can need lubrication so you might want to wash the casting in warm soapy water just before you prime to remove any possible residue and of course oils from your fingers.
