How about a different one.
A militant armed group of dissident terrorists begins a civil war against their sovereigns peacekeepers after they have secured the borders of the distant outpost against the French and aggressive natives in the knowledge that the peacekeepers could not be reinforced against them before the terrorists gained a foothold.
The eventual victory in the civil war is then secured by inviting back their former French enemy to help them win.
That's about it I think.
