Having re-visited the shield 3 times...amongst other changes made following suggestions from a certain chimp....I put the finishing touches to this piece last night.
This is far from my usual area of interest...and I would have to say it was the pose that drew me in.
At first glance...a simple piece....but once you get into the history of these warriors...it becomes clear that they had a 'uniform' applied to certain aspects of their standing within the tribe/caste.
Really enjoyed doing this piece...and would like to thank Richie for all his input and help.

As ever let me know what you think.

Hi Ron,
You are now publically declared unpaid 1879 Miniatures box artist:D:LOL: :)(y).

:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: Mate you have done a wonderful job on this, WOW to see a piece that I've released painted to this standard is just a dream come true for me. Thank you for taking this on. The is undoubtedly the best Zulu shield I have ever seen painted. It looks like you could rub your fingers over it and feel the textures of the hair, also the same applies to the springbok hide.

Love the tones on the Zulu you have achieved and you skill with an airbrush and brush just leaps out.
cheers
Richie
a.k.a. the big chimp sat here with a big satisfied grin on his face.

Ron, Great skin tones and I don't think you can get any closer to looking like the real thing with the shield without having an actual one in your hand, fantastic! Well, the standard is set and a high one it is, well done sir!

Tom

Superb work Ron! Definitely not an easy skin tone to get right! however you have nailed it.(y) The shield is a piece of art in itself, but it also compliments and ties in with the finished figure creating an excellent visual. How many shades, can I see on that skin tone! ???

I am not surprised that Richie is happy with this rendition. Top marks mate!

Regards,

Mark

Cheers Mark......pleased you think the skin tones are right....not as easy as I thought it would be....and the airbrush was the right tool to use for them (y)
Really enjoyed doing the shield....used only 'transparent' oil colours...including the white! :wideyed:

Ron

Have to agree with Richie and everyone else that shield is something else .......Brilliant work all round Ron....Kevin

Hi Mark.....started with black primer....then 'zenithal' white as per my normal routine.....
Used Scale 75 Flesh Tones set....started with a coat of African Shadow......5 shades of intermediate colours....hi-lites were Sunny flesh tone....finished with African Shadow to reinforce darkest areas....

Cheers

Ron
