Here's my latest it's Rommel the 120mm from Tamiya.

I did the base and highlights with alkyd.
Also added a pinwash.
I want to make the jacket and trousers worn and dirty from desert weather. Tips anyone??

greetings John.

Hello John:

I have painted this famous 1:16th Tamiya figure, but some years ago. And
you have really done a fine job on this one, John. I'm sorry but I'm not
familiar with the word pinwash. But you're off to a good start. And since
you're going to add dust and grime to his uniform, to make it soiled, I
suggest you make your base reflect that same kind of dusty terrain.

Good luck,

Miami Jayhawk

Very good work John,

Phil and Rick....the word pinwash is i believe something the dutch AFV modellers introduced. It's nothing more then a wash around a button to make it stand out.
They do that because a wash is for the entire vehicle. So you can do a pinwash with every rivet on a tank. Guys who do that, made them self very populair under the AFV modellers in Holland. They are the diehard's.

hehe thanks guys!

A pinwash is a local wash with about 95% thinner and 5% paint (in this case umber) ment to outline the details such as buttons, pockets etc.
I tip the detail and the cappilair effect makes the fluid set around the detail.
After 10 minutes I use a soft cotton stick to slightly remove it where the effect is to strong, but only if necess.
You can use a darker color to simulate shadow or dirt or a lighter color such as sand to simulate sand (desert vehicles).
