Interesting times and yes we all have an opinion , I do feel that Brussels with its corrupt system needs to look at itself , but there again FIFA corrupt beyond belief how long did it take to bring them to book , headquarters in Switzerland , oh that's right they are not in the EU but have there own special arrangement .
Mr junkel needs to stop referring to the membership as 27 it is 28 until we leave we are and will continue to contribute mind I do think that membership number may well decrease.
Who decided that Strasburg needed to be the center of Europe if it is why didn't they base it there instead of re-locating there once a year at incredible cost , I don't think the thousands of soldiers under the white head stones of Europe give a monkeys about where the center of Europe but they would be dismayed at the waste of money that could be spent on research into illness etc etc , sharp intake of breath what ever we feel it is democracy

The polite phrase would be the sycophantic slimeball scumspawn right hand man of beelzebub who buys those special mirrors that Donald Trump finds give the answer they wanna hear.
He apparantly had no idea as newspaper editor that his reporters hacked mobile phones for stories like every other press rag deemed 'Industry standard' procedure.

Apart from that he is not the nicest person.

Many in the public eye in Britain refer to him by using a mantra akin to Babelfishes posts.
"If ya seez it ya slaps it".
Paul.
Ah.................... a personal friend of Donald's! "Show me your friends and I tell you what you are like" or something like that.

I can follow your argument Chris but I'm trying to work out what FIFA has to do with this. Oh and by the way major investigation is ongoing here into Fifa and uefa as they broke banking and money laundering laws.

As for the special relationship. Switzerland has traditionally been neutral and over 70 years has developed an unique relationship and negotiation on all matters are continuous and even them some parts of the political spectrum aren't ever happy but the system here is based on conciliation rather than confrontation.

Anyway I'm now applying for Swiss citizenship having been here nearly 20 years so I will be a Welsh-Swiss cross. I sound like a cow! As I say to my wife she's the best tax break I ever had!

Cheers

We seem to forget the EU was born out of a desire to prevent going to war in Europe again after the Second World War, and to build a greater cohesion and better relations between their nations - something other nations outside Europe might learn.

Chris

We can blame our politicians for not explaining the benefits of European Integration. It is about removing barriers between similar, related cultures, rather than small stuff such as the straightness of cucumbers (this rule has been abolished years ago btw). This makes it easier to trade and harder to fight. At the same time, only united Europe can be a serious counterweight to an assertive China and Russia.

I find it sad to note how cynicism so outweighs such big And important benefits of the EU. It is not a perfect institution and should be improved, but is doesn't deserve this.

Glad I have a hobby to cocoon in....!

Hi mate I do agree with many points however with reference to Switzerland FIFA should perhaps should have had its headquarters some where else Mr Blatter and his other cohorts took advantage of its neutrality and banking system I am sure and I am glad to see they are doing their own investigation , you don't sound like a cross breed mate lol I am a mixture of everything .

I don't see myself as not being European however I want to see a better level of accountability failed politicians voted out by the UK amassing small fortunes i.e. Niel
Kinnock ,, did not want to join e u abolish the House of Lords , became a leading figure in the EU parliament as did his dear Glynis ...oh and now lord Kinock ,

You could also blame the EU for not making concessions to the UK, which in turn made many vote to leave.
If they had done so, we still may be in.
Any way what's done is done and we're out, we'll just have to get used to it.

It is however another sad day, as Corbyn refuses to step down. Cameran had the integrity to step aside. Credit to him.
Corbyn is a waste of space and as much use to the UK as a sock filled with custard.

Hi Chris

I'm Welsh through and through but I've never had a passport which says Welsh!

I agree with you about the hypocrisy of some politicians and there are some of these types in every country - all over the World it seems a small elitist club is running everything for their benefit and the rest of us don't count or matter.

Cheers

P.s. Big game later - I'm CCFC through and through and the K you mentioned is sadly also a fan!

Has anyone stopped to think that all the doom and gloom that everyone thinks is going to happen to the U.K. has a possibility of the effecting E.U. big time.As the second biggest contributor to the E.U. How are they going to find the money to bail out the countries that are near collapse once we're gone?

Brian

I hear they're going to ask that nice Mr Trump to help them out.

I know I shouldn't make a joke about this, but I couldn't resist.
Will try harder in future, promise.

:ROFLMAO: - "I want my money back" - ever heard of the "UK-rebate" covered by the other member states having a volume of 6,1 billion € in 2014 reducing the UK contribution effectively to the fourth rank within EU on a regular basis (- Germany paying 45% of all contributions regularly btw. - so guess how much the second rank will have to contribute)?
Brian - as a nation you won`t be missed I am afraid - fortunately and hopefully friendships will continue.
I have friends of many nationalities and that won't change. The average Brit won't be bothered that we won't be missed as we never have given much thought about Europe.Only for holidays

Viewed from a comfy and rather queer island or from that gun-toting continent soon to be called Trumpland, Brussels and the EU may seem the very incarnation of all that is evil and corrupt. We as continental Europeans, yes we who nevertheless still call ourselves Belgians, Flemish, Dutchmen, German, Poles, Greeks, Balts, Spaniards or Slovaks, see this in a rather different light. As some of my fellow "bloody continentals" already pointed out in this thread, for us the EU is about freedom of war, freedom to travel unhampered through all these countries, freedom to chat and trade with people who share our passion, freedom to learn about other but closely related cultures, freedom to speak in oh so many different languages. You have to have lived in countries burdened with heavy war memories, to have watched that bleak strip of land and barbed wire studded with watchtowers and freshly raked minefields snaking through the landscape to understand what the EU stands for, as former "enemies" go on joint exercises, sharing knowhow, enthusiasm and yes friendship with soldiers from Poland and the Baltic states. Some of you found it easy to put a name to corruption, for it was in bloody Brussels or elsewhere on the continent, now you will have to find new culprits to blame for all that is not to your liking in your own country! But some of your big brothers on the other side of the ocean will all too gladly cry wolf with you, to be sure, isn't it Donald?
Oh by the way, could you please stop shouting "Rule Brittania!",it's pathetic and very outdated!

Hej Mrs Brittania,

Why don't you visit an IKEA store? Maybe you can take advantage of a plundra (= IKEA's word for 'sale')? Buy a 'Hovet' or a maybe even the new 'Karmsund' mirror at a 40% discount. Take it home and put it in the sovrum (bedroom). Put yourself in front of it and what do you see? History. Past tense. I honestly don't believe that retreating in long past insular splendour is the way to solve internal problems.

But hey .............maybe if you take Farage and Johnson along to dispose of they might even give you a Söderhamn two seater in exchange!

Hej då

It seems clear no one has yet gathered the courage to wake Ma'am and let her know......either that or She's waiting to see if the people will become more revolting than usual.

I hope the English don't expect to be able to rely on the old Empire, because when we ( the kowtowing remnants of the old empire) were left high and dry without any notice at all in 1973 by the UK when they joined the union we had no choice but to quickly establish our own markets and diplomatic relationships in our own region.
Luckily for us we had leaders who saw the importance of quickly establishing markets with China and South East Asia.
Those markets are now thankfully well established and we're all benefiting from them.........so bugger off and get your own somewhere else.
Try Tierra del Fuego or Bhutan.

Oh dear how sad no matter how you try to have an opinion , and that querky old chestnut to have an opinion it's wrong , I was not directing at any perticular nationality or individual , however corruption is corruption any where here in the uk and in Europe as I said we are all intiteled to an opinion and I certainly don't need a lecture on on the history of Europe or the obscenity of war and its effects , I have an opinion and you yours .... Or don't I
I did comment to to cause an issue I made a comment ! A reflection

This may be too distintively Australian.... but those who are aware may appreciate "A Brexit, a cup of tea and a good lie down."
