I've made some more progress on this guy. I've added the shoulder armor and the rest of the helmet. I've still got plenty of painting to do on them, but you can see where it's headed.
I finished off the helmet on the samurai and then moved on to his lower body. The pants are being done just like his right sleeve, so I began with the main orange color. Since there will be armor panels covering his legs, I needed to account for them with the shadows and highlights. So I tacked them in place and then sketched in the highlights and shadows where I thought they should fall. Then I removed the plates to go about the more involved work of blending the transitions. You can see below how it looks now and then how it will look when the armor panels are in place.
I still need to add the design work on the pants. You might have noticed the odd white dots. Those are where I plan to put the design elements. Just like with the sleeve, I measured out the distances to keep the spacing consistent. Next I'll lay down the measurements for the circle diameter so the sizes will match. When the design work is complete, then I'll be able to actually attach the rest of the armor panels.
He's getting close to being complete. Now that some of the armor plates around his waist have been finished, I feel like I can finally see how he's going to look when he's all done. Of course there's still much more to do. I did a quick count, there are still 11 pieces in the box which need to be attached and painted!
