Check my earlier posting. I talked about the PQ and the interesting thing being, Salmond was taking advice from representatives of the PQ on how to run an independence referendum. Hopefully, with the defeat of Marois recently, this is a good indication of what will happen this September.

Cheers Paul. I did read that the two parties were exchanging strategy discussions. Salmond may want to take notes on what not to do. In any case, maybe we've seen the last of referendums here.

One difference in my view is that Quebec does fairly well in Canada and the sovereignty movement is largely emotional. Not sure the same can be said for Scotland. Others will know better.

Let's all stop whinging about governments,politicians,councils etc,etc, as the people who work in these places are born to be as near as normal in most cases just the same as you and me.Then comes their education and political brainwashing at political motivated Universities which mold these few who crave for power and they turn into what we've got today with all their faults.

I still reckon the U.K. is head and shoulders above any other country in Europe if not the world, taking all things into consideration.
It's a country I'm happy for my grandkids to inherit and have a reasonable good life,that's not the case if the Independence yes vote wins, and I aint gambling with my grandkids future.

Waterman I think you have been reading the wrong books! The "subsidy" you mention does not come from England, there are a few other countries in the melting pot. Wales. Nothern Ireland and of course Scotland all chip in to the UK treasury to help build the UK subsidy for poor Scotland. The free tuition fees, prescriptions, free travel (for the Elderly) do not apply to the rest of the UK because our (Scotlands) government tend to use money wisely. Let me ask you a question, apart from the oil industry keeping the UK going since 1969 with limited help from the rest of the UK, I know as I worked there. Why does a country that has enough oil to suppost the UK 55 Million people ( Westminster Figures) suddly have a major problem when the figure is spread over 5 Million people (again Westminster figures).
I have to explain that Osborn and Cameron are wasting England for you, not for Scotland. Read the IMF figures and Westminsters future planning. Without Scotland England will shift from a very rich country to 18th in the world. Scotland will stay around 8th.
Strangley I tend to believe the IMF rather than Cameron. All that crap about Labour ruining the the UK (Cameron again) tend to overlook companies like Lehman Bros. Fanny Mae and Freddy Mak to name a few!
These are the people that almost destroyed the Western worl as we know it, not Labour. Osborn promisd the UK would be in credit in 1 year, that was in 2010, we are still in a flatlining problem, depending on house sales to keep the country afloat Cameron desperate to keep the bubble from bursting.
If the bonuses and tax was levied on the banks and bankers we would have a much smaller debt, one that could be managed, making living more realistic for you and every other person in the UK.

I've listened to the main speeches at the conference and nothing has so far changed my personal position.
I do have to admit Nicola Sturgeons speech yesterday was perhaps short on detail but was delivered with passion and whoever wrote the bit about ' vote YES and RECLAIM THE LABOUR PARTY' has definitely hit the back of the net.
There is no doubt that this will have hit home with a huge number of Scotlands traditionalist Labour supporters. So nicely delivered Nicola......it's just a pity she looks a bit like Herman Munster.

Has anybody stopped to think if Scotland gets independence Cameron and his cohorts would be better of as there would be no anti tory vote to worry about from an independent Scotland.
Don't vote for yourself when the time comes,think of your family and what you'll be giving them in the future.

As for Scottish independence if that's what they want let them have it, I am a Brit and immensely proud of it no matter what birth place in these isles you hale from, our achievements as a nation have and will stand the test of time no matter what the likes of Cameron, Salmond and all do
