What an amazing diorama you have in there! (y) What scale is it?
But there are quite a few good post-apocalyptic (often mixed with sci-fi) films I've been watching in recent years. Sadly not those many pure sci-fi films have been done in recent years, IMO anyway.

The figures used in that diorama are all nominal 54mm.
Try this movie from 2008;

Harry,

"The figures used in that diorama are all nominal 54mm."

Wow! How can you paint all those tiny little details at such a small scale? I'm speechless!

"Try this movie from 2008"

Funny, never heard nor read about that one before! Will give it a try. Hopefully not a zombie/horror movie... those I don't like :cautious:

Thanks!

Cheers!

Edit: Ok, watched the trailer on IMDb... now (taking into account some of my favorites on this genre I mentioned before) I guess I know why you recommended this one... lol... :joyful:

That is a very old diorama and was built back when I was still mainly using pre-painted commercial miniatures.
Having said that, almost all those figures were converted to some degree. A few are complete re-paints and there's at least one, maybe two, kit figures in there as well.

It's one of those "so bad that it's good" movies.
:D

Hi Harry,

Films and TV series:

As probably a large number of people worldwide, I watched all "Indiana Jones" films. Also watched "High Road to China" quite some years ago. But don't remember ever watching the TV series you mention, "Tales of the Gold Monkey".

I used to enjoy adventure films more in the past than I do nowadays, I guess. Maybe one of the reasons is because it seems they don't do them as interesting and enjoyable these days as before.

I've always been interested and fascinated by sci-fi (books, films, TV series...), and it's one of the few genres I still like and enjoy reading & watching (whenever they pop up) .

Another genre of films I've been interested in for quite a few years (and I have no idea why  ) is the post-apocalyptic genre. Can't remember when this started but giving it some thought, maybe it may have started with the 1st and 2nd "Mad Max" (Mel Gibson once again... lol...) films, which I really liked back in the days (as a matter fact I watched the 2, before watching the 1st in the series; my favorite is definitely the 2nd one). Watched the 3rd (with Tina Turner), but that one is crap IMO. As is the more recent one (despite having the beautiful Charlize Theron on it... lol...), even with all the technology now available, all the special effects improvements, it still sucks IMO.

But there are quite a few good post-apocalyptic (often mixed with sci-fi) films I've been watching in recent years. Sadly not those many pure sci-fi films have been done in recent years, IMO anyway.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers!

Good, just change subject, more fun, but I'm afraid could also generate lot of " yes you're right" " no way " etc ...but the subject is more friendly
Perhaps because I like SF, fantasy, Swords and Sorcery, D&D, classic littérature, electronic, electric guitar, classic music, and .. and... and ...
Post Apoclypse, I must say that there my first thought goes to " The Postman " or " Le Dernier Combat " ( first movie by Beson )
SF movies I would say " Avatar" so far above all the others
SF serie " Battlestar Gallactica " ( the second one, with Olmos ) and I hate, ever hated " Dr WHo"
But " Handmaids Tales" "Sense8" "Gotham" are at the top of the list
SF space opera books ; "The Honor Arrington" saga
The "what if" genre ; almost all the books by H Turltledove, "The Draka Empire" by Stirling ...
And the Rebellion + SF : serie Outlander and books by D Gabaldon

Plesae note : IMHO IMHO IMHO

Best

Brilliant post.
In all kind of ways.

Watched it. Well, not that bad... I'd rate it a 3 out of 10 I guess, so there are much worse :D

Btw, I don't know why, but there are quite a few post-apocalyptic movies where most of the population has been killed by some kind of virus...

Now, the weirdest thing is that I didn't remember ever watching it, until the final few minutes, when she delivers "the cure" to Canaris, and then goes to her mother's house where Nelson pays her a short visit and then drives back to the city. I realized I had already watched it, as I perfectly remembered those final scenes. No idea why I forgot about all the rest of the film... For some reason my memory erased 99% of the movie and only clearly kept those final scenes!...

There's an old saying here that goes like this: "One can't please Greeks and Trojans both"...
So I guess each one of us is unique, sharing things in common, but also having different opinions on other things, nothing wrong with that IMHO.

I've watched "The Postman", but don't remember watching "Le Dernier Combat", by Luc Besson. Even thought I've watched a few of his movies, some that I liked, some more than others of course ("Lucy", "The Big Blue", for instance, that I remember), others not that much.

"Avatar" is also my favorite sci-fi movie by far! (y)

Never watched the "Battlestar Gallactica" series, as for "Dr Who", watched on occasion a few episodes but... not a fan.

Have never watched the TV series you mention, "The Handmaid's Tale", "Sense8", nor "Gotham".

But on the sci-fi and/or post-apocalyptic genres have watched quite a few, for instance "Jericho", "The 100", "The Event", the excellent "Taken", and even the old 3 seasons of "V" ("Victory", "Visitors" and "Visitors 2")

Same for the books you mention, don't remember having ever read any of them. But I've read all Frank Herbert books (the entire "Dune" series and a few others), and quite a few from Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein, and of course the dystopian worlds depicted in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World", George Orwell "1984" and "Animal Farm".

Cheers!

Must've found that same place this one came from.

Dear Maw and Paw,

I am well. Hope you are.
Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Marine Corps shore beats working for old man Larson by a long mile. Tell them to join up quick before all of the places are filled.
I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. but I am getting so I like to sleep late.
Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot, and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay.
Practically nothing.

Men got to shave but it ain't so bad, there's warm water.
Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried eggplant, pie and other regular food.
But y'all tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food, plus yours, holds you until noon when you get fed again.
It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much.

We go on "route marches," which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it's not my place to tell him different.
A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home.
Then the city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks.
The country is nice but awful flat.
The sergeant is like a school teacher He nags a lot. The captain is like the school board. Majors and colonels just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why.
The bulls-eye is near as big as a chipmunk head and don't move, and it ain't shooting at you like them Higgett boys at home.
All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You don't even load your own cartridges. They come's in boxes.

Then we have what they call hand-to-hand combat training.
You get to wrestle with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break real easy.
It ain't like fighting with that ole bull at home. I'm about the best they got in this except'n for that Tug Jordan from over in Devils Lake .
I only beat him once.
He joined up the same time as me, but I'm only 5'6" and 130 pounds and he's 6'8" and near 300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellers get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,
Alice
