this figure is an old 75 mm Pegaso which most of you will recognize.
I had it primed and it had been waiting on my shelves for a long time.
I finally found a medieval heraldry which I liked.
It represents a Sienese knight foot jousting during the first half of the XIV century. (that is why I gave it this clean look )

Oil painted, and thefore the yellow was quite a challenge, as it is not the easier color to paint !

I added the small flag and the shield, the first made of magic sculpt, and the second out of dental resin.

Wow!! Yellow and black, two of the most difficult colors to work with. Well done. The addition of the shield and banner is an excellent idea which makes the overall display better than the figure by itself.

Taking the easy way out again I see and cutting corners by going for a helmeted figure so that you don't have to bother about painting any flesh tones .... lazy stuff!!

I jest of course! That is a superb job in every way and I can't fault it. Both the painting and the execution are flawless. You have completely nailed it and it's a pleasure to behold. Rapturous applause!!

colours used for the yellow ( oil paint , sorry for the waterpainters ...)
base mixture of yellow ochre, cadmium yellow, mars yellow (mars pigments give good covering) and a touch of cad red medium(to give it this slight orange look ) to avoid the gaudy look.
shadows ; starting with base + mars yellow + mars brown + brurnt umber + sepia for the deepest shadows
highlights; base + cad yellow, incorporating titanium white progressively.

of course, i allow drying periods, and the painting is not done in one go !

for the helmet, I use highly polished bare metal (helmet and sword) to which i add tiny bit of almost dry oil paint of different dark colours, gently brushed where I want darker shadows. (the difficulty is to avoid seeing paint stokes on such a smooth surface)
the mace is painted using inks mixed with oil paint.

hope this helps
you can contact me for futher details ;)
