Hi Colin,
WOW that has moved on a rate of knots since I last viewed your initial thread. A well deserved round of applause from me I really like what you have achieved. He will look great when painted and mounted.
cheers
Richie

Looks great, Colin! Can't wait to see it painted.
I saw the head of this beautiful bust, last Saturday and looks great.
I like the working stand... (y)...
Cheers,
Zeno

Thanks - did the whole thing in 6 days and perhaps it shows. Its rougher than I would l have liked. I learned a lesson as you cannot repeatedly bake plain sculpey without losing some fine detail. I will paint this up and see how he looks - perhaps following with a nicer more carefully sculpted version.

I was contacted by McCrae biographer Jack Alexander through GWF and he answered my remaining questions re. Sir George's medal ribbon, eye and hair colour. Very generous of Jack to reach out. He personally designed the Contalmaison cairn memorial including the plaques so his interest means a lot. I will post painting progress here.

I got to see this on the weekend too! Lovely piece of work! Now, the one I saw was almost peach coloured - what's the difference?

Alex & Greg - thanks and nice seeing you guys too (as well as Paul, Colin, Zebo and Brian) in Ajax. It went a little long. The bust is undercoated so the peach is now passe.

Yes Carl and thanks - its written by Jack Alexander, McCrae's biographer and the cairn's designer. I especially life the photo of the Saltire vapour trails!

I started painting him in Vallejos but didn't like where it was going so I converted to oils half way through. FYI shaded Vallejos apparently make a good base for oils :(

So far his glengarry is only undercoated in liquitex acrylics, with the dicing roughed in in the same paints.

The oils are just started and a lot more work is needed. The eyes are done in acrylic and will also need some more work in oils. The facial hair will all be heavily greyed in the final version.

Lousy desk top photos improperly lit but gives you a general idea of what he will look like when done. All comments welcome.
