Hi everyone

Here's my choice of ribbons

L-R

Queens Sudan medal , Queens South African medal and Kings South African medal

Might replace the Sudan one with the Indian General service medal

Hi Nap,
I think Steve's drawing looks accurate but it still looks to me that the deep "V" is filled with some yellow material. I could be wrong. That looks like it would be a lot of work at this point. Looking good though.

Hi Kev - these are the engagements that Skinners Horse took part in up to 1900 -
First Afghan War-
Battle of Ghazni
Battle of Jellalabad
Battle of Kabul
Bhurtpore1842
First Sikh War-
Battle of Moodkee
Battle of Ferozeshah
Battle of Aliwal
Battle of Sobraon
Second Sikh War-
Battle of Ramnagar
Battle of Chillianwallah
Battle of Gujrat
Second Afghan War-
Kandahar 1878 – 80
Afghanistan1878
Boxer Rebellion-
Battle of Peking

Would probably be better to aim for some of these as medals, rather than South Africa - just a thought...?!(y)

Hi Steve,
My thoughts also. but in saying that. He could have transferred in from another Regt. But as you say keep it simple and go for your list. Could always add Edward V11 coronation medal.

Steve .....thanks for list ...thinking along the lines of how old this fellow might be ......but you have a good point about the SA medals ......any suggestions for 3..remembering the date on nameplate is 1908

Mick ....he could have yes ........thanks for the idea ....

I have often read that a lot of people think British uniforms are boring.... Personally I think the total opposite, love this one ...

Hi everyone

Yes hard to believe but a update on this ...after being inspired by Cannonball's SBS on the Mitches Skinners horse

Couple of very quick pictures ( not best ) ....uniform colour finished , medal ribbons completed , base coat on the main lacework ...the finer details will be done separately

Being dragged off for more yo ho ho

Here's the pics together with some original items ..sorry if I have posted already ...time pressure from SWMBO !!

Hi Guys

Bit more work this time basecoating the lacework on the waistcoat ......a lot of holding my breath!!!...Heavan knows how Rob Lane did the lacework !!!!

For some reason that I don't know ....on the last 4 busts I have left the flesh till last ......!!!!...must stop it

Next will be the cap

Hi Guys

Verbal update ....epaulettes and cap all done together with facings .....

But on the subject of facings ....

I have been reading the Rothero book regarding facings its stated that they are made of "black velvet" .....on both this uniform and the full dress bust currently in V Bench being nicely painted by Cannonball

So my question is : whats to best way to represent this material .......I was thinking a 50/50 mix of Matt/Satin varnish ?

Would appreciate anyones thoughts and ideas
