Hi all,
I have recently been lucky enough to fall on the complete set of Screamin 1/4 scale Vinyl Star Wars figures.
I have started making them but am struggling as I have never done anything this big before, or anything made of vinyl.
Any comments or suggestions would be a great help.
many thanks in advance

This website gives you a rundown on 'Building and Finishing Vinyl Figure Models':-
http://starshipmodeler.com/basics/lj_vinyl.htm

David Fisher produced a number of videos on working with vinyl figures many years ago.
They go under the title 'Model Mania', and there are five videos.
This site has the first two for free download.
http://www.twistysdownload.com/fdc/David+Fisher+++ModelMania+Volumes+One++Two.html

These contain much of the basic information.
I can't comment on the site as I have no need, since I have all five videos.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Malcolm

Nice selection and a big scale as well .......Andrew has given some great links

Is there anything specific you are having concerns with ?

Look forward to seeing these progress

Happy benchtime

Dang, Chewy is huge! I do hope that you have filled the legs with plaster. Over time, the weight of these guys can cause the vinyl to collapse, especially around ankles and knees. I did one many moons ago and had it assembled, then read about the plaster in the legs thing, so I ended up drilling a hole in the knee area, poured in the plaster using a tube, then used some putty to fill the hole and resculpt it. The plaster also helps keep them upright. You can also drill into the plaster to insert rods into the legs to mount them to a base.

Just saw your post below. On something this size, I would say an airbrush is almost a must. You can probably do 90% of them with an airbrush, and save the detail paint for the brushes..

That’s great, thank you.
the main thing I’m having problems with is the blending of the colours in this massive scale.
cheers,
Malc.

great advice,
yes I have filled the bottom halves with plaster of Paris, and the top halves with rolled up paper.
they are all massive, but the chewy is the biggest, closely followed by Vader

Great web site, thank you

I would go with Nap's suggestion of using an airbrush. On models this size it will just make your life a lot easier to get smooth transitions and cover such large areas.

Gary

Thanks all for the suggestions and advice, this will hopefully be my first of 2020, so I will keep you all posted.
