Hi to all!

I'm quite new to the forum and I would like to contribute for the first time by presenting my latest figure of a Swiss hornblower (Elite). Any comments would be highly appreciated.

Welcome to the planet Mark!! He Looks great Mark.....you have done a superb job . I can't see anything to critique. Excellent work.

Hello Guy,

thanks for your kind words. I have watched the Planet for some time and it really is a great site. So I thought it would be time for posting something myself.

Best regards

Mark

I've considered doing this figure from time to time, and I think you have done a stunning job of it. The base and groundwork are very unique.

Mark, Welcome to the planet. Very nice work. I love all the details you've put into the groundwork.~Gary

Welcome to the planet Mark. You contribution is fantastic my friend. Excellent groundwork and neat painting. I can't wait to see more of your work.

Mark, welcome to the planet. I have seen your work elsewhere and it always was of the highest standard. This one is no less. Give my regards to Bruno Schmaling if you bump into him. Regards

Welcome aboard Mark and that is an excellent looking figure you have there. Always liked this figure but have never bought it. Maybe I need to rethink my "wish list"?! Can you tell us a little more about the groundwork?

Great Work,
Jim Patrick

By the way, if you down size the pics to about 600 pixels in width we can see the whole figure without scrolling left and right ;)

I have to agree with the others, really nice. I like the yellow and the groundwork is really nice as well.

Joe

BTW Welcome to PF and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks to everybody for the nice comments on my figure!

It's a pleasure for me to participate on the planet. I don't mind any criticism either. As I hardly get in touch with any painters outside Germany this feedback is the only way for me to improve.

The figure is almost exclusively painted in enamels (Humbrol/ Revell) over an acrylic undercoat. The yellow is mixed from Revell yellow and Humbrol hardened leather with a touch of natural wood. Burnt Umber oil paint and more leather was added for the shadows and more yellow for the highlights.
Actually the groundwork was inspired by the original form of the wooden base (from Oakwood Studios). The ladder was incorporated to depict some different levels in the ground.
The basic form was made from magic sculpt, covered with moltofill-plaster. Some small roots and kitchen spices were pressed into it and later fixed with white glue. The ladder is made of some toothpicks and the horn is a sausage of duro rolled into shape and cut down when dry. Later everything was painted with various shades of brown and highlighted and shaded as usual.
The mushrooms are an idea "stolen" from Marjin van Gils excellent diorama.

Regards

Mark
