Hi all,
My vintage table lamp just went BANG, I say vintage as it is about 30 years old.
I need to get a new one swift and could do with some help.
I use the heat to cure my sculpting so I need one that will take a normal size bulb, not one of these Eco friendly low heat types.
Can anyone recommend one, it doesn't have to be flash, just a straight forward lamp so I can put a relatively high watt normal bulb in.
I am looking online but most are the low watt bulb type.
Thanks a lot
All the best
Gra

Any shop, around any corner, near you ! Unless you are living in the Gobi and can use only oil lamps . ;)
Sorry, perhaps I do not uderstand your quetions .
If you look for a bulb lamp above 50w , no way, EUC law . Something to replace it, go for a bulb lamp with halogène in it, still existing to 120W and it's also the closer to natural light
I you are looking for the lamp older .... everywhere, including second hand market .

Sorry if I haven't explained properly :)
Just a lamp for a normal bulb, this is 70 watt.
B&q is closest to me but typical closed at 4 on Sundays.
I went on the web site but they are mainly student desk lamps and I cannot gauge the bulb types.
If I can track one down tonight I will order it and should get this week.
As said it doubles for curing my sculpts and as I do it full time I can't work without it.
I have an actulite but there is no heat.
At worse I suppose I can cobble a biscuit tin together with a bulb fitting.
Thank you for your help.

Thats near enough same as what I use Graham for speed curing my putty, got mine from ASDA couple of years ago and it takes a 60watt incandescent bulb and has the bendy neck. Might be worth popping down to your Asda and seeing if they have any in store.
All the best

Ive got an old anglepoise lamp I no longer use, if its any good? The base weighs a ton, so dunno bout postage, but it takes a 60w bayonet bulb!

PM me,

Steve

Cheers to both Steves :)
I will go and have a scout tomorrow, thanks for the offer Steve, if I don't get any joy will PM you mate. As you say if it is heavy I can look locally first, ie Asda as Steve suggests
Thanks very much to you both.

Hey Gra

Do you have low wattage quartz lamps over there? A 75w will give you a sunburn so a 25w would serve your purpose. They are a small tube with ceramic tips.
Out of professional curiosity, what kind of lamp is the one you pictured? I've not seen one like it here in Canada. I recognize the cam, or bayonet base (here they're usually on smaller lamps) but it isn't like our incandescents. The ignitor looks to be like our metal halide or mercury vapour lamps. Professional curiosity because I'm an electrician.
At any rate, look into quartz lamps if you have them there.

Colin

Maybe try the supermarket Graham, I realise it's been thirty years since you've been there but I think they still sell light bulbs.

Mark S, where the hell has that come from?

Yet again another rude and insulting comment that has become the norm and your signature dish.

What does my post have to do with needing light bulbs anyway?
I was to understand from our last correspondence that you no longer wished to speak to me, so to what do I owe this honour.

Thanks Colin, Steves and Moz have kindly offered to help me out if I cannot track one locally. It is a old light so I cannot really give a make, it is about thirty years old. Despite the trying to be funny comments of Mark S above, my problem is that many lights today come, at least locally in store, with low watt bulbs which give little heat output.
I need it to cure the sculpts so the heat needed is the major factor. The top also is a convenient place to place the piece as it dries.
Thank you for the advice, I haven't heard of Quartz lamps but will certainly look.
Best wishes

Thanks Microsoft, it is the actual light for the table I am after and finding a place that sells them, preferably local so I can see what I am getting, unless I can be sure of the product, if it is Mail order.

Are these those the same a quartz, a halogen table lamp would be great if I can get one.
Best wishes

Sorry for sounding mega-obvious, have you tried giving ebay a crack?
It's the sorta stuff that somebody else may be trying to flog, especially if it's on the old side. Exactly as you say, more modern lamps tend to be aimed at LED or low energy bulbs which are no good for your needs.

Also consider Wilkinsons, as they may have something. IKEA have a vast range of lighting too.
Good luck either way. (y)

Evil Bay seems a good source - search under 'angle poise lamps'....something like this :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Industria...2?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Lamps&hash=item1e8edb678a

Herbert Terry seems to be an old manufacturer of this sort of lamp. Cant see any with a flat top, but I attach bulldog clips to the rims of my lamp and hang things from the holes. Bit 'Heath Robinson', but it works!

Hope this gives you another avenue of investigation!

Best bet is a trip round the second hand / junk shops (charity shops err on the side of safety these days).
When you get one try an old hardware shop up some side street for the bulbs.
