Finished my "Tales Of The North" Viking from CastleMiniatures at the weekend, so here he is. Done in oils over acrylics. For those who may not be familiar with this figure, he's 75mm resin.

A lovely piece from Mr. Sebryakov and I really enjoyed painting him. For the groundwork I used the base that comes with the figure, which I expanded with plaster & fine railway ballast (for texture), a few suitable small stones from the garden, topped off with dried roots, a bit of "forest in a pot" scatter and a few Treemendus leaves.

Comments & constructive critique welcome.

Very good! I love the groundwork other than the skull. Just seems to big for the figure but thats just my taste. Otherwise really good work!

Beautiful work! I just wish this figure had been closer to a real Viking....it is so cool and you have done a wonderful job.

Thanks for the feedback chaps. Keith - yes I'll be there mon ami.

Regarding the skull, I think this figure has a sort of "Norse myths" thing going on and so has one foot firmly in the "fantasy" camp. Obviously such things are personal preference and initially I wasn't sure about the skull myself - I briefly considered plastering over it and turning it into a large boulder. But I decided to go with it and in the end was fairly happy with how he turned out.

In any event it's such a beautifully scuplted figure it's almost a shame not to paint it!

Thanks Eduardo. That is good advice, I realise that my photography isn't the best and am always looking to improve!

I think this figure really suits earthy tones, and you've achieved that look really well. Look forwards to seeing it at leeds.
Carl.

I have been fight with myself trying to not buying this fig, but more and more I see this beauty weakest I become... I am losing the battle..o_O
Great figure & great painting job, special on the cape and leathers..(y)

Great version of that Figure. The groundwork is beautiful. Have you made the skull yourself? And like Rodrigo I will loose my fight and must buy that figure too

Ulrich

@ Rodrigo: Buy it - you won't regret it!

@ Ulrich: The figure comes with a base and the skull is cast as part of the base.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

This is a superb figure, it has so many small areas almost like tiny diaramas. Seen two versions recently and they are wonderful in the way they turned out so differently and each one a masterpiece.
Love what you have done with it Steve. Brilliant.
