There are a number of options available from Light emitting diodes to Grain of Wheat Bulbs, I used the GOW Bulbs in this Diorama which work off a 12 volt supply. They are small enough for insertion into most projects. There are also glowing light bulbs which simulate firelight, you can buy these at http://www.modeltrainsoftware.com/ Hope this helps and good luck with your project.
