Hello Gerard, After you mentioned changing the belt buckle to show the lone star, it reminded that the top of the cap, that your rendering, also had a star on top of it. In addition to the star, it also had a number 1, and the word Texas, in raised lettering. The canteen also had a star, number, and Texas painted on it. Here is a great painting by Kenneth Ferguson, showing the detail I've mentioned:View attachment 145292Thought this might give you an additional reference for details, if you haven't seen them already. Regards, SG;)
Many thanks SG.. I wasn't aware about the cap! I'll leave the letterings for the painting process..are to small for my sculping skills

Hi!
I've Sculpted a blanket roll and reworked jacket cuffs. While the flag stills need some work, the rest is now ready to paint

Great work Gerard, the patch on the blanket roll is a nice touch. Cannister, and mini-balls, have sure taken a toll on the flag, another nice effect. Waiting to see this one painted, best of luck. Regards, SG(y)

Hi Gerard ,

Great work love the flag and the additions you have made , this is going to look really good when painted ...and what perfect adaption and use of a great sculpt .

If anything I would have given him a younger face but no matter the beard looks good anyway .

Looking forward to seeing the painting of the colour and the blanket roll ..homespun pattern perhaps ?

Thanks for sharing

Hi Guys ,

This is the actual conserved flag ...amazing work

This is a Lone Star flag inscribed with the battle honors "Seven Pines/Gaines Farm" in the blue canton. In the field, the remnants of the honors "Elthams Landing” and “Malvern Hill" can be seen. This flag is supposed to have been made by the wife and daughter of the regiment's first colonel, Louis T. Wigfall, and was presented to the 1st Texas Regiment when it was organized in the summer of 1861. The white material used for the star is dress material, and the flag has long been nicknamed “Mrs. Wigfall’s Wedding Dress.”

Beautiful progress with the painting Gerard. Love that blanket roll. Still plan to do the lettering on the cap??? This is turning out to be a great piece, can't wait to see the flag finished. Best of luck the rest of the way. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)
