Great painting Fernando. Can I just ask though, what is the meaning of the two rather gruesome dolls attached to his haversack?

Well, they come with the kit. The idea is that they are some kind of death puppets that the violinist uses in his street performances. I understand that their purpose is mostly symbolic.
