I have been working on the base, for which I could try some armour modelling skills on the Maxim gun. Groundwork itself is just in basecoat.
The gun is a very crisp 3d print from Alex of Castle Miniatures. By sizing the MG34 it turns out Jeffs model is 1:15 scale, to which scale the Maxim was printed.
Some rough pictures below to give an idea of where this is headed.

Dramatic display, don't forget the spent brass around the gun though. The Maxim is looking good.
