Kev, thanks for that. Not sure it was a set as such, there were a couple of others based on Russian folk lore, one I have done and will post soon.

Cheers Simon

As a collector of kits as well as a painter l have a large collection of unpainted quadri concept and Fred rex flats.

I paint a couple most years (badly) but this thread has given me a push to do more.

Some lovely examples in the posts above and thanks to kev for giving us the opportunity to shine more light on this neglected area.

It's all about how much enjoyment you get out of doing what you do and flats can be very enjoyable indeed, give it a go and it will be appreciated here.

Right then, I was going to do some painting tonight but between my Granddaughter running me ragged and a convenient bottle of gin I'll settle for putting another couple of flats up for your viewing pleasure.

This one is a milk maid about 75mm, painted in oils. No idea who edited ot or even where I got it from.

Now I know it's not up to.my usual standard. That is because my daughter painted it when she was 7 or 8 years old, I did make her some other Beatrix Potter inspired flats from miliput, though I have no idea where they have gone which is a shame.

Next is an early piece from me, not much better than my daughters effort, The Black Prince, 65mm painted on oils and again no idea of the editor. This figure started quite a lot of interest in heraldry at the time.

Well that's it from me today.

That figure of the Prince of Wales, although not a great engraving, is nicely done. Colour tone of the NMM is off, but the placement is absolutely perfect. That could be a textbook example of where to put shade and highlight when painting armour.

Cheers Rob, NMM is the only way to do metal on a flat, metallic paint can be used but never really looks convincing. What it really needed was more reflected colour and less highlight, that would however make it look too shiny so it's a final balance to strike. Again Boris Valejo is a good artist to study for good NMM.

Thought I'd pop another couple of flats up, first is one for Kev, we'll it would be if I had any left. I made this and cast it in resin, inspired by my old mate Roy Hunt. Nowhere near his skill level and a pretty poor paint job to boot, but I think it's interesting.

Next is another from the talented hands of Vladimir Nusdhin, another Firebird inspired flat. Guess this is where the Prince gets the girl and they ride off into the sunset. It's probably around 65mm and as always on my flats painted on oils.

Cheers Mario, much appreciated, you do have some pretty good beers in Belgium though so it can't be all bad.

More great pieces, the Firebird is lovely, wonderful vibrant colours. The Richard bust is very clever, sculpted rather than etched?

Again many thanks Rob, yes the Richard III, was sculpted in miliput on a drawing of the last true King Of England. Not a brilliant job I found the larger pieces more difficult when I made it.

Good to see more from the world of flats

Well done on showing the Flat figure, it is still alive and kicking but seems like a closed shop at the moment ?
The sellers are going through a slow time since covid, I myself have thought of winding up 2D Figurines this year, it cost more to produce then any return we would see and sales are just not there anymore, one of our main sellers this time last year sold over 600 figures, this year not 25 have been posted out.
Post has a big hand in this as for me to post to Europe can cost as much as the figures and it's the same from Europe to the UK, cost is just getting to much.

Just a few of the producers that may be of interest

But as I said well done on showing the flat figure
