:D The problem is that I paint slow. The slowest snail on earth would theoretically speaking paint faster then me.

I wouldn't worry about that, I think this thread will soon confirm most of us would be better off describing our hobby as primarily figure collectors and figure painters secondary.

I reckon another interesting aspect on this issue of size of stash is.....The number of finished works in the cabinet as a percentage of stash.
Is that clear enough?...I mean how many finished figures as opposed to how many still boxed.

Now that would be embarrassing! At least for me.

With a the selection of very fine, high quality figures now on the market, one always thinks "I should get that one before it is OOP." Just think, one could be a recycler in years to come selling OOP figures.

Approximately 3000 kits and still buying more each week/month...

I was going give a count of my own, till I read your post. Now I feel like Chief Brody when he, Quint and Hooper were eating supper the first night out on the Orca, and as Quint and Hooper compare their scars and swap stories, he looks down at his appendix scar, then decides not to mention it.

Prost!

Oddly enough, I just created a google spreadsheet for maintaining an inventory - because you never know when you will need to have this information on hand ;). Clearly at only 43 figures, I can see that I am nowhere near the territory I should be in to start feeling any kind of guilt...

For me it a pawltry 235 all busts various scales .......quite reasonable ..I think
Mmmm at an average of 30 quid thats £7050

My stash consist of a rough even mix of busts & figures 80mm-200mm, so I started a count up yesterday and hit just over the 500 mark!!!!...Ain't got a clue how that happened??;)
I'm never going to live long enough to paint them all so looks like I'm going to be busy with sales on the market section or Ebay?....I must not buy more!.I must not buy more!....I must not buy more!..I must not buy !

Cheers

Approximately 3000 kits and still buying more each week/month. I never get to paint anything for myself anymore but still like to have the option of picking something from the stash on the rare occasion I get to paint. Just can't resist that new release and must have.

Among the stash is included most of the wing nut wings aircraft kits and several duplicates of rare and out of production figure and bust pieces, some armour and several limited edition Sci fi large-scale pieces, aliens and predator etc as well as up to date Sci fi and fantasy pieces from some of the top sculptors out there,if they ever get painted I wait to see.

Cheers
Tommi

King Tommi....You are my lord & master, and I want to have your baby! Oops!... I bow down to your Superior impressive majestic stash ;)(y)
Cheers

Im beginning to feel like the odd one out now! As a poor man from a poor family, I just have a very long list of pieces I'm interested in. When one project looks like its nearly done I order the next, unless I see something from my list on sale, that's a different matter. The idea of hundreds of unpainted stuff sitting in boxes is bewildering to me (that's not meant as a criticism by the way, each to their own, I just can't get my head round it, paint is everything). All those poor army men, lying in the dark, waiting, alone and unloved *sniff ;)

Nah! they are not alone & unloved! I think the growing size of a grey army is just one of those things that creeps up on you over the years when your not looking, you don't really think about how much actual painting time you get to yourself in a year, you just think "wow I like that & I like that & I like that & yes I will paint it"...plus they do multiply in their boxes...The dirty little swines!;)

I'm thinking that it some cases, such as tommi's, that it's a similar discussion to the whole historical accuracy debate. There are many subtle flavours to our obsession, for me, paint is all, collecting things for the sake of it is of no interest (though I do understand). For tommi collecting is a big part of what he does. And more power to him. Now, if you'd all be so kind as to put up your armies for sale at a vaaaaaaaast discount, I'd be ever so grateful.

I get the collecting thing. I think for a lot of guys (myself included), even just owning a particular piece that they like is part of the whole hobby "experience".

Call me strange (and my good lady often does) but I can get a proper buzz out of taking a model out of the stash, admiring the sculpting, casting, pose, box art and even sometimes the nice high-quality packaging ..... and then returning it back to whence it came until the next time.

And given the number of companies that have stopped trading in the past few years, there's also the question as to how long a piece you like will actually be around for, so better grab it while you can before you have to start posting appeals on forums or paying daft money on eBay to get one.

I have just looked in my drawer and I have about 20, various scales 54mm to 120mm and one bust.
I have a lot of catching up to do.

I think at the last count,(12 months plus) it was between Five and Six hundred still waiting to be done. I swore no more for 6 months, Then I saw a piece I've been looking for for years, A New Hope Design Limited Edition kit, The Gallows Bird, and so all my good intentions went the way of New Year's Resolutions!!!!
