As for the bayonet, that's what happens when you try to stick a Stormtrooper wearing body armour. A good back story can fix any problem that can't be repaired otherwise.;)

Nice painting Roger. I like how you have used the Hornet head to individualise the piece. Well done.
 
It must be a Gallic thing I have a 54mm Enniskillen Dragoon with a bent sword. I agree I have never seen an Englishman with a bent weapon!
Nicely finished Roger. Like the hose tops……not easy to do. Good job mate.

There is no easy way to do it and I've tried them all. The best one for me on 54mm hose tops is to paint the scarlet base colour and then paint each diagonal as three or four thin black parallel lines. This way where the lines cross you get the the solid black and red diamonds and the rest gives the red and black mix effect of the knitted hose top.
My Gordon Highlander is four times that of yours and has also taken a couple of goes.....so far.
