I continued tonight with the painting of the groundwork using Poly S acrylics. The first color was Poly S Rust carefully painting over pretty much all except the larger stones.

Painting the groundwork will loosen the small stones and sometimes as seen below you will have to remove the stones on a papertowel or Kleenex and continue on. Only a few of the stones will loosen.

I continue around the base working the edges carefully. I keep a warm wet rag handy in case I need to wipe the edge and remove paint.

After the Rust color has dried you will need to take a smaller brush and look for any white spots and make sure they are covered with paint. Next we use the same brush and start painting the small rocks and move on to paint the larger rocks in a dark gray acrylic paint

Now the gray is started.

It took about an hour to paint the first Rust color and about 2 hours to pick out the dark gray colored stones.

Thanks Tommi. I just gave the entire ground area a black acrylic wash and will start the dry-brush painting next this afternoon.

I guess after seeing David's progress on his version it motivated me to swing back to working on the groundwork. Sorry for the delay but other projects took priority.

I brought out the groundwork supplies I will need and elevated the Mountain Man base up to make it easier to work on and began planting the high grass I will use.

Next I looked through my dead fall box and found a couple of natural looking pieces to use as logs and attached them with epoxy.

I have added some lower spruce bushes and will take photos and post them soon.

Thanks John. Since this figure is for my own collection I have to sometimes put him aside while I do a commission piece or two. So the progress gets slow.

Thanks Don for the kind words. When the Trapper was first released I was hoping Dave would do one too. I have been a fan of David for a long time. It is interesting to see two different styles on the same figure.
