After seeing Magnus's version of this here on PF, I just had to have one, and ordered it from
El Greco Miniatures.
Nicely cast, although a little cleaning up needed here and there. Nothing major.
This morning I've concentrated on drilling the the bust and base to take some brass rod.
Once its been given a thorough wash, I'll prime it and start on the painting.

There's so much character and detail in the face, it should be great to paint.
The hat is being held in place for the photo with blu-tac, thus the slight gap.

Nap, I remember the Andrea version now, it never tempted me, but FeR's version was too good to let go by.

Found this a very nicely detailed piece. I think you will enjoy it. Look forward to seeing your work.

Cheers Ned, I think I will enjoy painting this, going through some colour option in mind before I start.

I've been able to spend a little time at the bench. :)
Yesterday I braved storm Bert to go outside a spray prime the main parts of the bust. :woot:
And I couldn't resist making a start painting the eyes and teeth, before blocking out the flesh tones and bandana.
I recently purchased AK's 3rd generation flesh set, and thought I'd give them a try, the shades differ from both the SC75 and Vallejo sets I have.
The base flesh tone is darker, which I thought would be ideal for a pirate, and to to this I added the lighter tones as I progressed, trying to get a nice graduation.
Once I got the basic tones down, I started to apply the shadows.
I'd already mixed Vallejo Chocolate Brown and SC75 Black with a little white added for the basecoat of the hair.
I added a little of this to the flesh mix, to create the stubble, which I have to admit, I'm rather pleased with.
Overall I'm impressed with the AK flesh set, the tones really worked well and produced the shades I was after.
Fingers crossed I'll be able to return to the bench in the next few days.

Nice one Malc, glad you're managing some brush time and wow that is a cracking face, I might do what I've never done before and buy a paint set.

Cheers Simon

Thanks Nap, the AK flesh set suited my style and what I wanted to achieve, they gave me the results I wanted straight off.
Not sure about the headscarf as yet other than it will be faded dark red.
The colour there now, is like a primer for reds.
