Great painting on difficult colours...expect this would work for 95th rifles figures.Excellent.
Regards
Pete

Many thanks Pete, I found that docraft Forest Green acrylic paint I had in stock was just the colour I wanted, going by the box art which saved me trying to mix a shade. I would have thought that shade would have been a touch too vivid for 95th, OK with a touch of black mixed in perhaps.

Cheers

Geoff is right - If it was Tarleton then 2 fingers would need to go!!

"Tarleton had lost two fingers from a bullet received in his right hand in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse,[24] but "his crippled hand was to prove an electoral asset" back home.[25] The condition of his hand is disguised in the pose of his 1782 portrait (shown in this article) by Sir Joshua Reynolds." - extract from Google

Great painting throughout - do like the uniform, and the helmet especially! Hopefully see it at Yeovil or Bughe Call!

Many thanks Ian, thanks for the added info and pleased you like the bust.

Do come and say hello if you do manage to get to either show.

He is all done apart from the base, I really enjoyed painting him.

The next one will be the CGS bust of Major the Black Watch 1903-14 sculpted by David Grieve so steady hand required for the tartan.

Geoff

A dashed fine job there mate ..look forward to seeing this at Yeovil

Thanks for sharing

Nap

Memo to self ...get painting instead of putty pushing !

PS That CGS is a fine subject and a great sculpt

If its Tarleton himself then there should be 2 fingers missing from his right hand? Would make it a bit different!

Ian

Ian I have New Marengo's mounted Banastre himself in 54mm on my workbench and seeing that you are a bit of a specialist along with Geoff I would like to ask two questions: a)what colour would the sash/tape wrapped around the base of his cap be for the man himself?Green as per Geoff's officer or different? and b) Was he missing two fingers in his right hand? When did he lose them, before or during the AWI?
Thanks in advance.

Oda.

Hi Oda, thanks for the compliment but I just do a bit of research and I found a painting of Banastre

Tarleton Legion (2).jpg

and I found this one but do not know if this is him but it does show up the helmet colours nicely.

As regards fingers I have no idea but Ian I am sure with help you there.

That's an absolute stoater of a bust, Geoff. It's the little touches that make it stand out, like the highlights on the helmet plume & the small amounts of wear on the edges of the crossbelt. Fine piece of work.

I look forward to seeing it in the flesh at Bugle Call........:)
