hey all:

After trying the paints out on some dummy figures, I started on this one from Elite
I only have 8 colors yet, so I had to mix a lot! ;)
Great figure, only very long legs.
Let me know what you think of it. Any commands on the painting??

Erik,

The only thing I can say is watch out! I look forward to seeing what else comes from you as you get more Vallejo's! Great job!

Joe

Erik, Beautiful paintjob. I love the red. You've managed to make more than the most out of your limited palette of 8 colors. Great job.~Gary

I second that. Absolutely. And once again, WOW ! You'd say that this figure was actually painted in oils, so your blending technique with those acrylics must be quite good !

Well done! (y)

Thanks all for the ice comments,
I have to admit that it where actually 10 colors, I’m just a bad counter.
There aren’t any stores in the city I live witch can provide me with Valleyo color. Only Citadell. (of witch I have a few colors now) There is a hobby store 65 km away. still have to go buy some paints!!!!!!

Jim:
The mix for the blue is: black + Dark Prussian blue + a bit of French mir. Blue
For the shadows more black and for the highlights more bleu and a bit of flesh.
The white was black + white + a bit of green ochre.

Thanks Johan, my blending technique is quiet simple, just applying thin layers of paint over and over again. Lots of patience lots of fun!!!!!

Greetings
Erik

Thanks Erik. Again, great job. But a few more questions if you don't mind. Which "bleu" are you using when you apply the highlights. When I have tried to use Vallejo's Prussian Blue, I always end up with a slight sheen to the finish (hence, I recently switched to Andrea for Prussian Blue). Did you get this sheen as well or not? If so, what did you do to get rid of it? What about the gold lace? What colors did you use on this?

Thanks again,
Jim Patrick

Hey Jim,

I don’t mind at all!!
I ad small amounts of Prussian Blue and French mir. Blue to the base mix for the highlights, a bit more after each layer.

I know your problem, the pants on the figure have a slight sheen finish, I thought of applying a mat varnish but instead I mounted the figure to the base and moved on to the next figure. I was a bit scared of using Humbroll mat varnish. I’d like to try Valleyo’s varnish but I still have to go to the hobby store….. When I’m there I’ll try the Andrea bleu btw!!

The gold lace was painted with a mix of: black + light brown + green ochre + flat yellow and a bit of carmine red
Highlighted wit more ochre yellow and white and shadows with the base mix + more black and light brown

Greetings
Erik

Erik,

I agree with the others. That is a very nice job, especially considering you are new to Vallejos. Jim is right about the Andrea Prussian blue. Andrea paints have to be the flattest paints out there. If you like the intensity of the Vallejo blue, just add a bit of the Andrea blue and it will kill a lot of the sheen.
