Does anyone know of database tool is available for collecting military uniform unformation. I'm looking for somehting where i could collate snippets of information together in one place.

If one doesn't exist i may end up having a go a writing something. Any leads appreciated.

Thanks

Keith, can you describe in more detail what you're looking for? Do you want something that you can search on, sort, group, etc.?

What I do is use dozens of little text files (Word files would work, too, if you want to include photos or drawings) to capture bits of information that I collect over time.

As you say, i'm after something that can group data, sort, search with text & pictures. Text files (word documents etc) are fine to a degree but i'm looking for something a little more structured, with ease of retrieval of information a priority.

Sorry i can't be more specific. Just wondered what others are using.

What a good question. I wish I had a good answer. :(

I can only speak for myself, but what I'm doing is researching one project at a time and creating a mixed file - text info plus jpg files showing the uniform(s), variations, etc. I tend to use multiple sources (so far) for the few projects I've done. This can be everything from multiple textbooks to web sites to Armes Militaire magazine articles. Is this the process everyone follows?

Given this kind of process, it would be difficult to store all this disparate info in any one system. I guess you could resort to scanning in articles and text book pages, etc., but that seems to be more trouble than it would be worth.

I find the research just as enjoyable as everything else about making figures!
