I think I’m calling it a day here. Not perfect but definitely better than previous attempts. I particularly like the way the gloss on the eyes and a tiny touch of satin on the cheeks helps.

I’ll hand him over to his new owner tonight.

Nice one Stefan, I know it hasn't been mentioned much but I like how you've done the woolly pully, I much preferred shirt sleeve order.

I think the face has turned out really well, there's no hiding place in that large scale! The texture on the beret could be more refined, but I find that technique really challenging.

Hi Stefan, congrats on this work mate & your patience giving this experiment a go.
You've got to be pleased with your evolution on this one & new owner is happy too.
Really get a sense with your finished version of what you were trying to achieve. Well Done!

Unfortunately I've been away so only just seen the thread, so apologies for not commenting sooner.
It was good seeing advice coming through here, all of which I'd concur with. A few points I'd add.

  • I also struggle with translating the evolution of layers & effects, so like you, use photos to provide another view of how things are coming along. Looks like you found this helpful too.
  • I do find Glazing Medium important to better distribute colour & aid fine tuning.
  • Also adding a little Satin Varnish as I progress can give a sheen, as well as help with translucency of skin. It does take practice so do keep at it.

  • Been ages since I did a full faced bust, so am looking forward to doing some myself over the coming months. Will share my relearning & practice when I get started on them too.

    Trust this helps too mate.

Hi Stefan

I really admire you for this piece , you’ve done a nice paint and learnt lots on the way

I use a blending medium when painting......just a touch ....oh and of course a brush 🤣🙄

We have all enjoyed the V Bench as well

One happy new owner on the horizon

Said it before this could easily be painted into any unit just by changing the badge

WELL DONE

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy brushes
