Nice start Kev, I'm liking the look of the blue.

Cheers Nigel....it’s getting where I want ...in reality it’s darker

Couple of pics quickly done ( white spot on back isn’t there now )

The blue tone is looking good, nicely done.

Loving the look of this so far, great job on the blue shades

Thank you Rob and Dave for commenting ...I’m quite pleased with how it’s coming out

.....think I might do the rank badges next

Currently painting the peak underside a anti sun dark green

Thanks for looking in

Good going Kev but I have to say those haircuts are hideous, cut the lot or don't bother. To reproduce the picture with all that hair sticking out under the band would look awful, an RSM's worst nightmare, OK I know the Americans don't have RSM's but still it looks worse than a bad bikini wax if you know what I mean. Just go for the buzz cut and leave the straggly hairs out! Well that's what I think anyway.

Happy New Year by the way.

Cheers Simon

I agree with that, There does not appear to be enough depth available under the rear rim of the capband to sculpt the stray hairs without them looking spongey, so best leave them out (I assume as you did not do it before starting painting you don't fancy carving away sufficient depth for a resculpt).
Doing a high buzz cut in scale is going to be a challenging enough task.

Hi Rob

No straggly hair .......the high buzz cut looms ...going to try stippling ...we shall see

Verbal update on this fellow...nearly finished the ribbons off ...looking good even if I say so myself ....lol

Need to confirm if the rank stripes were a yellow or gold ...any thoughts welcome

Happy benchtime

This ones certainly got a few challenges in there for you.

Just a thought for the shaved head effect.
a thin coat of oils wiped off could work.

As a former jarhead myself, go with the shaved head look. Regulation hair was 0 inches on the sides graduated up to a maximum of 3" on top. High and tight haircuts were basically zero most of the way up, then a buzz cut flat top. Usually you could tell the type of Marine you were dealing with by the haircut. Us air wing Marines pushed it to the limits (and sometimes beyond), I frequently sported a "Navy Reg" until told otherwise. The real Devil Dogs of the grunt variety and truly motivated usually sported the high and tight.
